76ers vs Rockets Summer League Prediction: Philadelphia’s Paint Advantage Should Cover July 14

Summer League picks: 76ers vs Rockets from the Thomas & Mack Center on July 14. Odds, Johni Broome and Labaron Philon Jr. stats, and our best bet.

The Las Vegas Summer League slate rolls into Day 6 with a Tuesday afternoon matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets at the Thomas & Mack Center, tipping off at 4:00 p.m. ET on Prime Video. As always with Summer League, keep in mind these rosters look nothing like the regular-season units — this is mostly rookies, second-year players, and fringe roster hopefuls auditioning for training camp invites and G League assignments rather than the stars fans see in October.

Philadelphia arrives unbeaten through two games, having opened with a 101-93 win over the Detroit Pistons on July 9 before grinding out a 100-93 overtime victory against the Indiana Pacers on July 11. Houston sits at 1-1, coming off a 97-86 win over the Denver Nuggets on July 10 before dropping a 102-89 decision to the Toronto Raptors the very next day. Both clubs are looking to build momentum with the top four Summer League teams advancing to playoff action starting July 18.

76ers-Rockets Odds: A Tight Number Despite the Records

Sportsbooks have Philadelphia as a modest favorite. The 76ers are sitting at -4.5 on the spread with a moneyline around -194, while the Rockets get the points at +4.5 with a moneyline near +156. The total for the contest is set at 180.5. Bettors tracking live NBA odds throughout Summer League will notice these numbers move quickly as more game data comes in, and given the pace and youth involved in Summer League basketball, totals like this can swing wildly based on which team is hitting from outside and which is turning the ball over in the open floor.

The number reflects Philadelphia’s clean 2-0 start more than any major talent gap. Both rosters are stocked with players fighting for two-way deals rather than established NBA rotation pieces, which is part of what makes these Summer League odds close relative to the win-loss record disparity. For bettors new to wagering on these games, a betting calculator can help quickly translate that moneyline gap into implied win probability before placing anything.

Philon and Broome Carry the Sixers Load

The headliner for Philadelphia is Labaron Philon Jr., the Alabama product Philadelphia selected with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Philon dropped 24 points in the overtime win over Indiana on Saturday, showing off the shot-creation ability that made him one of the more confident prospects in this year’s class. He’s been the Sixers’ primary shot-creator through two games and figures to see heavy minutes again against Houston.

The other major storyline for Philadelphia is Johni Broome, the 6-foot-10 big man out of Auburn who Philadelphia took with the No. 35 pick in the 2025 draft. Broome, who wears No. 22 for the Sixers, exploded for 23 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block in the win over the Pacers. That kind of two-way production at the five spot has been a driving force behind Philadelphia’s ability to control the paint — the Sixers out-scored Indiana 50-32 in the paint in the win. If Broome can replicate anything close to that line against a Houston frontcourt that’s still figuring out its rotation, it’s a tough matchup for the Rockets to solve.

Beyond Philon and Broome, names like Saint Thomas, Duke Miles and Javontae Campbell round out a Sixers group that’s shown solid depth so far, giving head coach TJ DiLeo multiple scoring options off the bench. Bettors looking to back that depth can find current markets on the DraftKings promo code or the FanDuel promo code pages, both of which carry active offers heading into the back half of Summer League.

Rockets Look to Rebound After Raptors Loss

Houston’s Summer League group is built around Bruce Thornton, the Ohio State guard Houston moved up to select with the 31st overall pick in the 2026 draft. Thornton is a steady, high-IQ guard who shot above 40 percent from three in each of his final two collegiate seasons, and the Rockets need him to settle the offense after a turnover-riddled loss to Toronto.

Quadir Copeland has been a versatile piece for Houston as well, averaging 13.9 points and 6.5 assists on efficient shooting splits of 49.4 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from three and 77.5 percent from the line during his college run — numbers that suggest a player capable of controlling tempo if he can translate that efficiency to the pro level. Up front, Oscar Cluff, the Purdue big man out of Australia, gives Houston a rebounding and interior scoring presence, having posted 10.6 points and 7.5 rebounds on 68.3 percent shooting in his final collegiate season. Isaiah Crawford, who logged limited NBA minutes on a two-way deal last season, adds a bit of pro experience to a young Houston rotation still finding its footing.

The Rockets’ issue through two games has been consistency — they looked sharp in the win over Denver but were outplayed for stretches against Toronto. If Thornton and Copeland can control the ball better and limit live-ball turnovers, Houston has enough size and shooting to hang with a Philadelphia team that hasn’t been challenged much through two wins.

Prediction and Best Bet

Philadelphia’s two-way big man in Broome gives the Sixers a clear advantage in the paint, and Philon has proven he can create his own shot against Summer League-level competition. Houston’s frontcourt in Cluff is solid but unproven against a player who just posted a double-double with a block and steal attached. Expect Philadelphia to lean on its interior size early and control the glass, while Philon’s shot creation should be enough to pull away in the fourth quarter if Houston’s turnovers creep up again like they did against Toronto.

  • Prediction: 76ers 96, Rockets 88
  • Best Bet: 76ers -4.5

This is the best bet because Philadelphia has controlled the paint in both of its wins so far, and Broome’s rebounding advantage against a Houston frontcourt that’s still finding continuity should be enough to cover a number that’s closer to a pick’em than the 2-0 versus 1-1 records suggest it should be. For anyone looking to line up a first wager on this one, the BetMGM promo code and Caesars promo code pages both list current new-user offers worth checking before tipoff.
