The College Football Playoff is nearly here! There is a lot to look forward to in the New Year, and these two games are certainly two things we’re excited about.
The first game of the CFP features a matchup between Alabama and Michigan, a highly-anticipated contest. As the line stands, Michigan is a 1.5-point favorite, and the over/under is 45 points. This indicates that Vegas slightly leans toward Michigan, and they’re anticipating a lower-scoring game.
With this in mind, we have studied the board and found our favorite player props on Underdog. Below, you’ll find our two best bets from each team. Let’s hit these plays and start the New Year off to a great start!
Michigan has one of the best defenses in the country, only allowing 87.1 rushing yards per game. Why would we take the over on one of their opponents, then? It’s simple.
Jalen Milroe has been highly efficient on the ground this season, a great supplement to his exemplary passing numbers. We like his chances of having a big rushing day in this one, as Alabama will do anything possible to come away with this game with a win.
When you think about Alabama’s offense, Amari Niblack probably isn’t one of the first players that comes to mind. He has been a big-play athlete for this team all season and only has logged 19 catches.
However, he has turned those catches into 321 receiving yards, averaging 16.9 yards per reception. If Milroe has the opportunity to throw a few deep balls, look for Niblack to be the recipient, cashing the over on his receiving yardage prop.
J.J. McCarthy has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country this year. He is a big reason that Michigan went undefeated and has continued to raise his draft stock primarily due to his ability to mitigate mistakes.
While he has played well lately, McCarthy’s passing numbers aren’t as inflated as we might like. He only threw for 147 yards against Iowa, even though he had 30 passing attempts.
McCarthy might be efficient, but he isn’t necessarily a big-play quarterback. Look for him to hit the under on this line, finishing the game with less than 190 passing yards.
We might anticipate a small game from McCarthy, but Michigan will be highly effective in rushing. Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum have been among the best running back tandems in the country, a trend that shouldn’t slow down this week.
Look for both Edwards and Corum to put together massive performances, especially Edwards, who will relieve Corum in a complementary role. Edwards has rushed for at least 31 yards in three of his last four games, including two against ranked opponents.
