The Oilers host the Kraken in a Pacific Division clash tonight. With Edmonton’s dominant offense and Seattle’s road struggles, here’s our top betting picks.
Connor McDavid is back with the Edmonton Oilers as they take on the Seattle Kraken tonight

The Edmonton Oilers host the Seattle Kraken tonight at Rogers Place and this one is looking like it might be a bit skewed. This Pacific Division clash features 2 very different teams trending in very different directions. With Edmonton sitting comfortably near the top of the standings while Seattle struggles to gain any ground at all, this one seems like it can only go one way; however, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some really hot bets to be made.

Here’s our full breakdown of the betting odds, expert analysis, and our best bet for tonight’s matchup in Edmonton.

Odds and Game Outlook

The Oilers are huge -280 favorites on the moneyline. On the other end, it’s no surprise that the Kraken are underdogs at +240. The over/under is set at 6.5 goals which tells us this game might just bring some explosive scoring and make for a fun game to watch.

Edmonton comes into this game on a solid run. They have a dominant 31-15-3 record and are not looking to slow down, especially against a faltering Kraken. They’re 7-3-0 in their last 10 games and have been nothing less than solid offensively as they’ve averaged 3.31 goals per game this season. Led by their superstar Leon Draisaitl, who has racked up 74 points spanning 35 goals and 39 assists, the Oilers are a constant scoring threat. To top that off, they even get Connor McDavid back tonight, but more on that in a minute.

On the other hand, Seattle has struggled for any amount of consistency.

They are just 22-25-3 on the season and 5-5-0 in their last 10 games. Scoring has been somewhat of an issue for the Kraken, as their 2.92 goals per game ranks way below Edmonton’s output. With left-wing Jared McCann and his 38 points leading the charge and netminder Joey Daccord and his 2.43 GAA and .917 SV% showing a few flashes of brilliance in net, the Kraken will need a complete team effort to stay relatively competitive.

At first glance, this seems like an easy bet all day long. However, before you load up your bet slip, let’s take a bit more of a look under the hood to see if we can get any solid betting insights for tonight’s game.

Injuries Could Play a Key Role

Both teams have some seriously notable injuries.

For the Kraken, Chandler Stephenson and Jared McCann are day-to-day, which we think will hamper their offensive potential if either misses the game. We won’t know until later today, but either way, we don’t see them being 100% even if they do lace their skates. Seattle is already a thin team up front which makes every healthy body crucial.

For Edmonton, Connor McDavid is coming off of a 3-game suspension. Many in the NHL didn’t see this coming, but after his brutal cross-check to Cono Garland last week, the NHL decided to take him off the ice for a few games. During that time he’s not able to practice with the team, either.  While this was a massive loss, he’s back, but he might be a bit sluggish coming into the game.

Fortunately for the Oilers, they are deep enough to compensate for a slower McDavid, with Draisaitl and others capable of stepping up in a big way.

Goaltending Battle

The goaltending matchup features Stuart Skinner for Edmonton and most likely Joey Daccord for Seattle.

Skinner boasts a respectable 2.69 GAA and .902 SV%, but Edmonton’s defensive lapses have occasionally left him vulnerable.

Daccord, at the other end of the ice, has been Seattle’s most consistent performer in net. He’s sporting a .917 save percentage, which ranks among the league’s best. If the Kraken defense can limit shots, get some blocks in, and Daccord do the rest, the Kraken may just have a fighting chance.

Seattle will need Daccord to be at his absolute best to withstand the Oilers’ offensive onslaught. Edmonton’s high-danger chances, combined with their lethal power play unit, make for a tough assignment for any goalie of any caliber.

Prediction and Our Best Bet

The Oilers already lead the season series 1-0. They won 4-2 earlier this month and they’re looking even better this time around.

Seattle’s road woes (let’s not forget that they’re 10-13-1 away from home) and lack of scoring depth make this a difficult spot for them. This is especially true against an Edmonton team that thrives on home ice with their 17-8-1 record. Even with McDavid trying to get back in the saddle, the Oilers’ offensive depth and Draisaitl’s form give them a clear edge.

  • HelloRookie’s Prediction: Oilers 5, Kraken 2
  • Best Bet: Edmonton Oilers -1.5 (+105)

The Oilers are playing with confidence and we think they’ll take advantage of Seattle’s inconsistent play. We expect Edmonton to control the game from start to finish, with Skinner holding fairly steady in the net. A multi-goal win seems likely to us, especially with the Oilers’ ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities and their ability to force mistakes.

For total bettors, the over 6.5 is worth a shot. Of course, this is pretty high, to begin with, but Edmonton’s offense and Seattle’s tendency to give up goals on the road tells us this game could hit the over, even if it’s one-sided.

Big Player Prop Bets

Prop bets can sometimes offer some excellent value — especially when they’re supported by player trends. Here are a few solid options for tonight’s matchup—

  • Leon Draisaitl Over 0.5 Assists (-154): Draisaitl has recorded at least 1 assist in 10 of his 11 previous games against the Kraken. His playmaking ability makes this a solid bet.
  • Leon Draisaitl Anytime Goalscorer (+100): We don’t usually go back-to-back on a single player, but as a contender for the Hart Trophy, we can’t pass this up. Draisaitl has found the back of the net in 5 of the Oilers’ last 6 home games against Western Conference opponents.
  • Vince Dunn Over 0.5 Assists (+176): Vince Dunn has been a consistent contributor against Edmonton as he’s registered an assist in each of his last 5 games with the Oilers.

These player prop bets align well with the stats and trends heading into this Pacific Division clash. On top of betting on the game itself, these provide a few additional ways to profit from the game beyond the moneyline and spread.
