The NFL season is finally here! Schedule makers kicked it off with a bang to boot, giving fans several divisional matchups as well as intriguing rematches from last year’s playoff bracket.
While the teams will look similar this season, there are a lot of new faces behind those helmets. The 2025 offseason featured several big-time moves, including some top-tier rookies who will make an instant impact.
Which players can bettors expect to make an instant impact – and profit! – for their new teams in these season-opening matchups? We’ll cover that with our top four anytime touchdown scorers for Week 1.
It’s rare for a rookie running back in his NFL debut to have such strong odds to score a touchdown. But Las Vegas running back Ashton Jeanty is no ordinary rookie. After rushing for more than 2,600 yards in his final collegiate season, the 5-foot-8 phenom is ready to take on the next level.
His matchup this week should provide him with better-than-average odds, too. New England’s defense was among the league’s worst last year, but offseason upgrades at defensive line and linebacker should be instant upgrades for the Patriots. Still, expect the rookie to squeak at least one across the goal line Sunday in the Raiders’ run-heavy offense.
We’re sticking with this new faces theme by selecting Davante Adams. The veteran wide receiver is now with the Rams, his fourth team since 2021. For his career, the 32-year-old has caught 1,507 receptions for 11,844 yards and 103 touchdowns, including eight last season.
Can the ageless wonder continue to work his magic with Los Angeles? The answer is yes. Puka Nacua will garner significant attention from the Texans, but Adams’ ability to shake defenders is uncanny. Expect Matthew Stafford to find him for at least one score on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers should be charged with armed robbery for stealing D.K. Metcalf during the offseason. The Seahawks parted with their 27-year-old receiver for a second-round draft pick as Seattle moved on from the talented wide receiver while still in his prime.
Immediately, he’s the top receiver for fellow newcomer Aaron Rodgers. What’s more, Metcalf fits the bill of the type of receiver that Rodgers covets. Expect these two veterans to connect early and often this season, and Metcalf will score in his Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets.
Long-time readers of this column know that we reserve the fourth and final spot for a long shot. Count Cleveland tight end Harold Fannin Jr. as that for Week 1. Fannin finished his Bowling Green career with a bang, recording 117 receptions for 1,555 yards and 10 touchdowns last year. He led the entire FBS level in receptions.
What makes him appealing is the Browns’ offensive attack. Cleveland fired its offensive coordinator and will return to head coach Kevin Stefanski’s run-oriented attack. That means the Bengals – this week’s opponents – will see two tight ends often against the Browns, and it makes Fannin an excellent underdog choice to open the season.
