Guardians vs Yankees Prediction, Odds, and Our Best Bet for June 3

Carlos Rodon takes the mound as the Yankees look to stay hot at home against a streaky Guardians team. Can Cleveland keep it close in the Bronx?
Carlos Rodon of the New York Yankees delivers another strong outing as they face the Cleveland Guardians at Yankee Stadium.

The Cleveland Guardians head to the Bronx to take on the New York Yankees in the first game of a 3-game series tonight. The first pitch is set for 7:05 PM ET at Yankee Stadium, so there’s plenty of time to get your bets in.

The Yankees come in hot, winning 3 of their last 5, while the Guardians are fresh off back-to-back wins against the Angels, but their road gets tougher here.

Game Details and Pitching Matchup

Tonight’s pitching duel features Tanner Bibee for the Guardians and Carlos Rodon for the Yankees.

Rodon is quietly putting together one of his best seasons with a 7-3 record, a 2.60 ERA, and a minuscule 0.94 WHIP across 72.2 innings. With numbers like that, he’s making an early case for a Cy Young. He’s struck out 90 and walked just 26, showing he has both the command and the consistency. Over his last 3 starts, Rodon has tossed 20 shutout innings, allowing just 11 hits and striking out 20.

Bibee, meanwhile, has been more up and down and definitely has had better seasons than this. He enters at 4-5 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Those numbers aren’t terrible, but compared to his 2023 and 2024 seasons, it’s not looking good. He was roughed up in his last outing against the Dodgers, giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs in 5 innings of work. While he did pitch 7 shutout innings versus Detroit in the start before that, the inconsistency is a concern — especially against this Yankees lineup that can absolutely punish even the smallest mistakes.

This will be a big test for a Cleveland team that trails the division-leading Tigers by 6.5 games. The Guardians did take 2 of 3 from New York earlier this season, but that was back in April. A lot has changed since then and both teams don’t exactly look the same.

The Yankees are coming in as heavy -198 favorites on the moneyline, while the Guardians are +164 underdogs. While the Guardians aren’t doing too bad overall, these odds apparently reflect the guys on the bump.

The total is set at 8 runs, with the under slightly juiced at -112. The Yankees are also +110 to cover the run line at -1.5, while Cleveland is -130 to keep it within a run.

There’s a clear reason New York is this heavily favored. The Yankees are top-3 in nearly every major team stat — batting average at .259, runs scored at 5.5 per game, home runs at 1.6 per game, and team ERA at 3.60. That’s a complete team effort. They lead the majors in OBA, holding hitters to just .216, and strike out 9.4 per game, which ranks 3rd overall.

Cleveland, by contrast, ranks 24th in batting average at .234, 23rd in runs scored, and 21st in ERA at 4.06. They’re simply not built to trade blows with a team like the Yankees, especially not at Yankee Stadium, where scoring tends to stay moderate with 9.1 average total runs per game. On top of that, they’re up against a team that dominates with pitching. No matter how you cut it, the Guardians have an uphill battle for this road trip.

Analysis and Prediction

Aaron Judge is the engine for this Yankees lineup, and right now, he’s absolutely on fire. After all, what else would you expect from him?

Judge leads the team — and the league — with 21 dingers, 50 RBIs, and a .391 AVG. His OPS is a cartoonish 1.249, thanks to a .485 OBP and a .764 SLG. The guy is doing video game numbers and doesn’t appear to be slowing down. This simply comes naturally to him.

On the Cleveland side, Jose Ramirez is holding his own with 11-yard bombs and a .327 AVG, but he doesn’t have much help around him. Carlos Santana has 7 homers and 29 RBIs, but he’s hitting just .262. This Guardians offense simply doesn’t match up with the depth and production the Yankees bring to the table and with Rondon on the mound, tonight’s probably not the night that it gets any better, either.

Another thing working against Cleveland is their road struggles. They’re just 17-15 in night games and are about to face one of the stingiest pitching staffs in baseball. Bibee gives up a lot of home runs with 12 in just 63 innings and that’s not what you want when you’re walking into a ballpark with Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo waiting on deck.

Rodon has been rock-solid all season, and especially lately. In his last start against the Angels, he pitched 7 innings without a single run, and on top of that, he only gave up 5 hits. That followed 6 shutout innings vs Texas and 5 innings of one-run ball vs the Mets. It’s safe to say he’s locked in and he delivers every single time he takes the mound.

Cleveland’s lineup doesn’t have the firepower to break through against Rodon. Unless Bibee pitches the game of his life, this feels like a spot where the Yankees can cruise to a series-opening win, and even the bookmakers like it.

  • HelloRookie’s Prediction: Yankees 5, Guardians 2
  • Best Bet: Yankees on the -1.5 run line at +110

The Yankees moneyline at -198 doesn’t offer much value of its own and that’s why we’re going with the run line bet. Rodon’s current form and the Yankees’ offensive firepower make a 2-run win very possible. Backing the under 8 runs also makes sense for this game when you consider Rodon’s dominance and the Guardians’ below-average offense. But the best bet is riding with the Bronx Bombers at home to take care of business.
