The 3-4 San Deigo State Aztecs will have their hands full on Friday night when they march into Albertsons Stadium to take on the #15 ranked 6-1 Boise State Broncos. The Aztecs are coming off a tough 29-26 loss to #22 Washington State last week.
Leading 26-14 with just under 14 minutes to play, they allowed John Mateer of Washington State to orchestrate 2 touchdown drives late to let their lead and the game slip away. The Aztecs went just 5-14 on 3rd down and committed 8 penalties in the loss.
Boise State won their 5th straight game last week, but it did not come easy. They trailed 10-3 after the 1st quarter and after taking a 20-10 lead at the half, they fell behind again 24-23 after the 3rd. Ashton Jeanty, the Heisman hopeful, hurt his arm early and was bottled up most of the game.
However, it is nearly impossible to keep him completely in check and on 33 carries, he finished with 128 yards and scored what became the game-winning touchdown in the 4th quarter. Despite going just 3/15 on 3rd down, the Broncos were able to win the turnover game 1-0 and stood up defensively in the 4th quarter.
San Deigo State has allowed an average of 199 yards per game on the ground in their 4 losses this season. Now, they face a Boise State team that is averaging the 4th most rushing yards per game in the country (274.9).
We expect the Boise offense to get back on track with pushing this weaker Aztec defensive line around and allowed Jeanty and company to rack up the rushing yards in this contest.
The spread is on the higher side, but we believe the Broncos will be scoring early and often in this one with the game being a wrap in the 3rd quarter.
