Week 2 of the NFL season will wrap up with the “Bird Bowl” as the Falcons will head north to take on the Eagles. Philly’s offense looked sensational against Green Bay last Friday and Saquon Barkley fit in just fine on offense. Atlanta is coming off of a disappointing performance against Pittsburgh in Week 1.
As Hank Jr. would say, “Are you ready for some football?” Our betting preview can help get you prepared for all of the action. Get the top player props for Monday Night Football here! Enjoy the game!
Update: Since AJ Brown has been ruled OUT with a hamstring injury, I’m replacing him with Darnell Mooney Under 3.5 receptions. We found -125 at Fanatics this morning and like it up to -150 or so. Good luck, sports betting family!
Yes, I know that Brown didn’t go over this number in Week 1 against Green Bay. That being said, the former Ole Miss star was still targeted 10 times by QB Jalen Hurts in that game. The smart money says Brown will also get plenty of targets in this showdown against the Falcons, so I’m riding the Over!
I know we shouldn’t put too much stock in last year’s numbers, but that’s all we really have to go on this early in the season. In 2023, Brown’s median was 7 receptions, and his median number of targets was 9. I think Brown will benefit from the creative play-calling of new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
Brown should also get a pretty favorable matchup on Monday night. Atlanta will more than likely put Mike Hughes on Brown for most of this game. Hughes isn’t a bad corner, but he’s only 5’10” and weighs just 190 pounds. That could be a major issue against the 6’1″, 230-pound Brown. Give me the Over!
I’m a little bit surprised that this line is so low! Goedert is a good blocker, but he’s also a big part of the Eagles’ passing attack. He had a median receptions number of 4.5 last season, and he caught 4 passes in Week 1 against the Packers. Goedert has went over this total in 11 of his 15 ball games in 2023.
The Falcons have a pretty good defense, but they’ll have their hands full defending the likes of Brown, Smith, and Barkley. When the Atlanta pass rush does get home, look for Hurts to hook up with Goedert several times over the middle of the field. Goedert had a median target share of 6.5 last season, which is a number in our favor.
Atlanta had some trouble defending the tight end last season, as they allowed the 8th most fantasy points to that position. This is a nice matchup for Goedert, and he should sail over this number of catches!
This one is a bit scary, but I strongly believe that it’s the right side. Hurts is a super-talented guy, but he had a median of just 1 passing touchdown a season ago. The former Alabama and Oklahoma standout stayed under this total in 12 of his 18 games in 2023.
We already talked about how respectable this Atlanta defense is, and I expect them to clamp down pretty well when Philly gets the ball in the red zone. The addition of Saquon Barkley makes me think that Kellen Moore won’t mind going somewhat run-heavy when the Eagles have the ball around the goal line.
We also have to remember that Philly still loves to run the Tush Push with Hurts in goal to go situations. I’m expecting Atlanta to do a decent enough job with their bend but don’t break defense in this spot. The outcome will be sweaty but give me the Under!
