Here we go again, the Chiefs are back in the AFC Championship once again. However, they find themselves on the road and as underdogs for the 1st time in their run to become the next dynasty of the NFL.
They got to this point by defeating a familiar foe in the Buffalo Bills last week 27-24. Josh Allen and the run game of the Bills were able to pile up 182 yards on the ground but could never really get the passing game going.
Conversely, the Chiefs were able to use a more balanced attack and utilized Travis Kelce to his full potential as he went for 75 yards and 2 scores in the frigid Buffalo night. Hard running Isiah Pacheco toted the rock for 97 yards and a score and Mahomes was an efficient 17/23 for 215 yards and 2 TDs with no INTs.
Baltimore looked like the #1 overall seed in the AFC last week as they dismantled the Houston Texans 34-10. They held Houston to just 38 yards on the ground and 4/12 on 3rd down.
Lamar Jackson surpassed the 100-yard mark on the ground and accounted for 4 total touchdowns. He spread the ball among 8 different receivers with Zay Flowers leading the way with 4 receptions and 41 yards.
Gus Edwards and Justice Hill combined for 106 more rushing yards to complement what Lamar had done. While the final score looked like a blowout, the Texans did hang tight through 3 quarters and were even tied at the half. However, a 17-0 dominant 4th quarter proved to be the difference.
Baltimore will not be able to afford to allow this KC team to hang around like they did the Texans. This KC team is playing like they have something to prove. Maybe it is because they did not have the best regular season, or maybe it is because they have been told they could not win on the road in the playoffs.
Whatever the reason, they seem to be playing with a chip on their shoulders. In the end, we believe this one comes down to the defenses. KC is the #2 overall defense compared to Baltimore who is 6th.
Mahomes has proven over the years that he can find a way to win when things get tight, while Lamar has been known to falter in big spots. Let’s take the points!
