There is only one matchup in college football this Friday night and it’s a bit underwhelming. Florida Atlantic will head north to take on Charlotte and both teams have a losing record.
FAU is currently a 4.5-point favorite and the total is sitting around 41 points. Check out our best bets for this matchup on Friday, October 27. Good luck!
The Owls are fresh off a road loss to UTSA last week where they saw their 10-7 1st quarter lead disappear early in the 2nd before getting run out of the stadium. FAU was held to only 20 rushing yards and 142 passing yards.
The offense was bad but the defense may have been worse as they allowed 27 first downs to UTSA and 437 total yards. LaJohntay Wester only caught 4 balls for 14 yards in the UTSA game which was a far cry from his average of 9.4 catches for 90.9 yards. They will need to get him going in this road contest against the 49ers.
The 49ers won their opener before losing 5 straight games. Last week, they faced East Carolina with a chance to snap their losing streak, and with a 10-7 win, they did just that. The defense was the story.
Despite losing the turnover battle 2-0, Charlotte held ECU to just 39 yards on the ground and 88 yards through the air. They were able to stop drives in their tracks by holding ECU to 10 first downs and just 2/14 on 3rd down.
Jalon Jones was the leader on offense as he used his legs more than his arm in this one to go for 127 yards and a TD. His 144 passing yards were underwhelming and the 1 interception to 0 touchdowns was a day to forget.
In a game where neither offense has looked great recently, we will want to lean on the better defense of the two. In this case, we believe that is the Charlotte 49ers, who are allowing just 22.7ppg to opponents.
We believe the win over ECU will be a nice building block for this game and the dual threat of Jalon Jones will cause issues for this FAU defense.
There is nothing to truly love about either offense in this matchup. We are on the 49ers only because we like their defense more than the FAU defense.
Offensively, FAU is 161st in scoring while Charlotte is even worse at 262nd. We expect this game to be similar to Charlotte’s last game against ECU which finished just 10-7.
