When the San Francisco 49ers (10-4) take the field on Monday night, their playoff hopes will be set. It’s their opponent – the Indianapolis Colts (8-6) – who need to win out for any hopes of securing a postseason bid this year.
San Francisco earned its playoff bid by winning four straight games in convincing fashion. The 49ers have won five of their past six games, all of which were double-digit margins of victory over their weakest schedule stretch.
Indianapolis is headed in the opposite direction. The Colts have lost four straight games, three of which are likely headed for the postseason. Their schedule will not ease up, either; Indy’s final two games come against teams the Colts would likely face in the AFC playoffs.
Can Indy strike gold against the 49ers to end their losing streak? We’ll cover that and provide bettors with our top four player prop bets for Monday’s contest.
Raise your hand if you thought Philip Rivers would be involved in any player props for the 2025 NFL season? Anyone?
That’s what I thought.
Rivers came out of retirement after Indy’s Daniel Jones was lost for the season with a torn Achilles two weeks ago. The Colts turned to Rivers, who completed 18 of his 27 passes for 120 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Seahawks last week.
Listen, he’s 44 years old. The Seahawks’ defense was unrelenting, and he still held his own. Expect Indy to open up their playbook even more this week during his second start. No one expects him to throw for 300 yards, but the Colts will have a few deeper throws in the gameplan. Take him to cover his passing prop bet by a narrow margin.
Despite missing several games this season, San Francisco’s George Kittle remains one of the league’s top tight ends in 2025. The 32-year-old has caught 45 of his 54 targets for 484 yards and six touchdowns, finishing with at least 67 yards in each of his past five outings.
The league’s top tight ends have struggled against the Colts. Arizona’s Trey McBride finished with 72 receiving yards earlier this season, making him one of the few players at this position to have a strong receiving day against Indianapolis. Kittle will add his name to that list on Monday night, securing at least 70 receiving yards to cover his receiving prop bet total.
After Sunday’s action, Indianapolis running back Jonathan Taylor dropped behind Buffalo’s James Cook in multiple rushing categories. Currently, Taylor is second in rushing attempts with 272 and second in yards with 1,443. He’s still leading the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns this season.
The San Francisco rush defense has been suspect over the past two outings. Running backs have a combined 255 rushing yards against the 49ers during that time, including a pair of 90-plus efforts by the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans.
Even if the 49ers load the box, Indy will feed Taylor the football. He’s posted three straight games with 21 or more rushing attempts, finishing with at least 74 yards in all three outings. He’ll likely break the century mark on Monday night, and bettors should take the over on his rushing prop bet.
Although San Francisco has been dominant of late, the 49ers’ last five wins have come against teams that are currently 19-56 this season. Their only win over a team with a .500 record was over Carolina, and the Panthers are just 8-7 this season.
Indy has been resilient despite losing four straight. The Colts have lost three of those four games by four or fewer points. That’s why a 5.5-point spread seems high for this contest. Expect the 49ers to win, but a closer-than-projected fashion seems appropriate for this primetime showcase.
