3 NFL Player Props for Friday, August 18

The Giants and Falcons will play home preseason games on Friday night after one week’s rest from road matchups to begin their 2023 schedules.

New York fell to the Detroit Lions after leading 13-3 at halftime, managing only a field goal in the entire second half and giving up a touchdown with less than two minutes to go to fall behind for the final time.

The G-Men were led in passing by rookie Tommy Devito, who played almost the entire game in their losing effort. He completed 15-of-24 passes for 155 yards, threw a touchdown and interception each, and was sacked five times.

Devito and the Giants will host the Carolina Panthers this evening, the only team in the NFL to have yet to score in the 2023 preseason. Carolina is a three-point underdog at MetLife Stadium.

In the second game tonight, Atlanta is nearly a touchdown favorite to start 2-0 this preseason after giving up just a field goal to the Dolphins last week and taking two interceptions to the house within 13 seconds of each other in the fourth quarter.

They’ll take on the Cincinnati Bengals, who returned an interception for a touchdown themselves but were soundly defeated by the Packers after allowing five offensive scores. Trevor Semien and Jake Browning combined for 45 pass attempts, 208 yards, and two interceptions as the only Bengals to take snaps at QB.
Check out our best bets ahead of tonight’s doubleheader in New Jersey and Atlanta just ahead.

Chuba Hubbard OVER Rushing Yards

Miles Sanders, one of the few running backs to sign a long-term deal this offseason, didn’t see the field last week and has an injury history that may make him unlikely to appear tonight too.

Hubbard managed just nine yards on four carries, trailing Spencer Brown both in opportunities and effectiveness.

Carolina only attempted 15 rushes, two of which came from Matt Corral, while facing a negative game script against the Jets. We are betting on that changing tonight, with Hubbard being one of the beneficiaries.

Evan McPherson OVER 1.5 Field Goals

We played McPherson’s totals multiple times throughout the 2022 season, and it was a relatively lucrative endeavor for our bankroll.

The former Florida Gator is coming off a year in which he hit 83% of his field goals and kicked off his preseason last week with a 4-for-4 night against Green Bay, including makes from 38, 39, 43, and 51 yards.

The Cincinnati offense should provide him with multiple attempts again Friday night, and we trust him to convert.

Logan Woodside OVER 105.5 Passing Yards

Woodside is the third quarterback on the Falcons roster, well behind Taylor Heinicke for the team’s backup role but also not in a competition with a fourth passer on the depth chart.

He took every snap at QB during their opener, throwing for 146 yards on 23 attempts for a team that relied more on their running game and defense to prevail against Miami.

We’ll place some faith in Woodside to improve on his replacement-level performance against the Dolphins after another week of practice and play him to surpass expectations against the Bengals.
