Jalen Carter is a front-runner for 2023 Defensive Rookie of the Year.
We gave out our season leader futures recently, but now it is time to look at the Rookie of the Year awards for the 2023 upcoming season. Sauce Gardner lived up to the hype and was named Defensive Rookies of the Year. He was one of our longshots picks last season and paid 10 to 1 on his ticket.
Garrett Wilson added Offensive Rookie of the Year, giving the Jets ROYs on both sides of the ball. This year he gets future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers throwing to him.
That was last year, though. Let us go into our options and who we believe has good value at the numbers we currently have available. Just as we did with our league leader picks, we will remain cautious and use these as fun ways to gain a rooting interest, and we encourage all to do the same. Now, let’s dive in!
CJ Stroud will take the reigns for 1st-year coach DeMeco Ryans. While he has a defensive background, Ryans still knows the high value of the QB, which is why he selected Stroud #2 overall in this past draft.
Stroud will have every opportunity to put up numbers from the get-go and has that dual-threat ability. At 9 to 1, we kind of like the price as well.
Jahmyr Gibbs takes over for D’Andre Swift, who left for Philly. Gibbs was a monster at Bama and steps right into a high-powered Lions offense. He could see a healthy dose of carries in the red zone.
Quentin Johnston steps into a very favorable position with the Chargers. He’ll have a great QB throwing to him in Justin Herbert, and most defenses will be focused on stopping Keenan Allen. Johnston could have a huge rookie season!
Jalen Carter will be surrounded by former Georgia teammates now that he is in Philly. With the comfort of familiarity and a defense that will be rotating guys a good amount to keep the offensive line on their toes, Carter could be Reggie White-esk for the Birds.
Jack Campbell starts at linebacker for the Lions and will be motivated by Aidan Hutchinson, who believes he should have had this honor last season.
Not only with the motivation be nice but the openings that Hutchinson will create for Campbell will lead to sacks and tackle for losses for Campbell.
Joey Porter Jr. is the type of dynamic cornerback that could end up with a slew of interceptions this season. The Steelers got a steal by drafting Porter in the 2nd round of the draft. He’ll be a key cog in Pittsburgh’s defense, and we love that he’ll have a chip on his shoulder.
