Shane McClanahan makes our MLB props card for Friday.
We went 2-0-1 with our MLB props on Wednesday. Bryce Miller and Andrew Heaney were both winners. Joe Ryan finished with exactly 7 strikeouts to push our other selection. Maybe it wasn’t technically a sweep, but we’ll take it.
Want to get your weekend started off with some cash? Here are 2 PrizePicks MLB Props for Friday, July 28. Let’s stay hot, folks!
How odd is this setup? Toussaint was cut by the Guards just a few weeks ago, mainly because of his robust walk rate of 16.7%. The White Sox picked him up off waivers, and now he gets to face his former team. While Toussaint may be hungry for some sweet revenge, we don’t think he goes over this number.
Toussaint does a good job of missing barrels, but he simply doesn’t strike out a lot of hitters. His fastball only averages around 93 MPH, so big-league hitters usually put it in play with ease.
Speaking of teams that put the ball in play, the Cleveland Guardians do that better than anyone. The Guardians have the lowest strikeout rate in MLB, as they only fan 6.93 times per game. Toussaint should stay under this number, especially since he may not pitch more than 3 or 4 innings.
It’s tough to fade a true thoroughbred like Shane McClanahan, but we think it’s the right thing to do tonight. The powerful lefty just hasn’t been as dominant since dealing with back tightness last month. In fact, McClanahan has stayed under this number of Ks in 6 of his last 7 starts.
McClanahan also hasn’t posted dominant numbers against this Houston lineup. His K-rate against the ‘Stros is only 17.1%. Houston also has 5 guys with strikeout rates of 19% or less.
Could S-Mac burn us and get 6 or more strikeouts? It’s possible, but we think it’s much more likely that he finishes with only 5 Ks in this one. Houston has the lowest K-rate in baseball against lefties. Play the Under!
