New York Mobile Sports Betting Revenue Jumps 37.8% to $214.4M in July, FanDuel Leads

New York’s mobile sportsbooks turned in their best July on record, with the state’s eight licensed operators generating $214.4 million in gross gaming revenue during the month, according to figures released by the New York State Gaming Commission. That’s a 37.8% jump from a year ago, fueled by an 11.4% hold rate that more than doubled June’s mark even as total wagering dipped from the prior month’s record pace.

The numbers mark the first time New York sportsbooks have cleared $200 million in monthly revenue during July since mobile betting launched in the state back in January 2022, underscoring just how much bigger the market has become even as growth in other states starts to level off.

FanDuel and DraftKings Keep Trading Blows

The FanDuel-DraftKings rivalry remained the headline storyline in New York’s numbers. FanDuel posted $651.2 million in handle for July but converted it into the state’s largest revenue haul, at $86.2 million, thanks to a strong 13.2% hold rate that more than doubled its June total. That performance was good enough for the top revenue spot even though DraftKings out-handled its rival.

DraftKings led all operators in wagering volume for the second straight July, taking in $661.5 million in bets. Its hold came in lower at roughly 11%, translating to $72.9 million in gross gaming revenue — still a 39% year-over-year increase, but not enough to catch FanDuel at the top of the revenue leaderboard.

Fanatics, BetMGM and Caesars Round Out the Field

Fanatics Sportsbook continued its climb up the New York market, generating $21.2 million in GGR on $221.6 million in handle — a 51.7% increase that puts it firmly in third place among the state’s operators. BetMGM produced $15.6 million in revenue, up 55.9% year-over-year, while Caesars Sportsbook rounded out the top tier with $11.4 million, a 17.6% increase from last July.

The sharp jump in hold rate across the market — more than double June’s figure — was the biggest driver behind July’s revenue surge, even though total handle actually declined from the previous month’s record. New York taxes mobile sports betting revenue at 51%, one of the highest rates in the country, meaning the state’s take from July’s activity topped $109 million and pushed year-to-date tax revenue past $725 million.

New York remains the largest legal sports betting market in the country by revenue, and operators continue to lean on their DraftKings promo code offers and other sign-up incentives to compete for market share in one of the industry’s most lucrative — and most heavily taxed — states.
