Flyers vs. Sabres Same-Game Parlay: Beginner-Friendly 3-Leg SGP for October 21

Wednesday’s NHL slate is a small one, just two games, and one of them is the Philadelphia Flyers (2-6-3) visiting the Buffalo Sabres (4-3-2) at KeyBank Center at 7:30 PM ET. If you have never built a same-game parlay before, this is a friendly place to start: the favorite is clear, the stories are easy to follow, and we can keep the legs simple.

A same-game parlay, or SGP, just means you combine several bets from one game into a single ticket. Every leg has to win for the ticket to cash, so the payout is bigger, but so is the risk. Today’s three-leg build is Sabres to win, Owen Power to record a point, and Trevor Zegras to record a point. Odds move all day, so check your own sportsbook for the exact prices before you bet.

Leg 1: Sabres Moneyline

A moneyline bet is the simplest wager in hockey: pick the team that wins the game. Buffalo is the favorite at roughly -185 at DraftKings, with Philadelphia around +154. A minus sign means you risk that amount to win $100, so this leg is on the pricier side, but it anchors the whole parlay.

The case for Buffalo starts with the Flyers’ offense. Philadelphia is averaging just 1.55 goals per game, 32nd in the league, and its power play is clicking at 12.9%. The Flyers are also 0-4-1 on the road this season. They did win 3-2 over Colorado on Monday behind two goals from Matvei Michkov, but they did it without Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett, Cam York and Rasmus Ristolainen, who are all out.

There is a real reason to respect the other side, though. Buffalo’s goaltending has been shaky, with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen carrying a 3.59 goals-against average and .860 save percentage. Alex Lyon is on injured reserve, and the Flyers’ Joseph Woll has a .917 save percentage. That is why the price on Buffalo is not a gift, and why we keep the rest of the parlay focused on skaters.

Leg 2: Owen Power Over 0.5 Points

A points prop is easy to track: the player needs one goal or one assist. Power, Buffalo’s defenseman, has two goals and six assists for eight points this season and has registered a point in five of nine games, including three multi-point games. His points line sits around +125 for the over, which means a $100 bet would profit $125.

Defensemen get a boost on the power play, and that matters here. The Flyers’ penalty kill is solid at 84.6%, but Buffalo is a different story on the other end, with the Sabres’ own power play sitting at only 9.1%. The more important point for Power is simply volume: if Buffalo scores a few, he is usually on the ice for them. Power also has an assist in each of the Sabres’ last five games as a favorite.

Leg 3: Trevor Zegras Over 0.5 Points

This leg goes the other way and rides the hottest Flyer passer. Zegras had three assists in Monday’s win over Colorado, one on the power play, and he leads Philadelphia with five assists and seven points. He is playing on the top unit alongside Michkov, which is where Philadelphia’s offense runs through.

Zegras’s price is around -120 at one book, which is close to a coin flip. The risk is that Philadelphia’s offense has been starved, and Buffalo allows only about 25.7 shots per game, eighth best in the league. Still, the Flyers’ top line is where goals come from, and if Philadelphia scores, Zegras is very likely involved. This leg can still cash in a Buffalo win, as long as Philadelphia scores at least once and Zegras is involved.

The Full Parlay

Put it together: Sabres moneyline, Owen Power over 0.5 points, and Trevor Zegras over 0.5 points. Combined odds depend on your book, so use a betting calculator to see what a stake pays before you lock it in, and compare lines on the live NHL odds page.

The idea is straightforward: Buffalo wins a game where its skaters get involved, and Philadelphia’s lone bright spot, Zegras, chips in on a goal against. Parlays are a fun, higher-risk way to bet, so keep your stake small and only wager what you can afford to lose.
