When we most recently checked in on DraftKings, the welcome bonus on offer was a straightforward “Bet $5, Get $200 in Bonus Bets Instantly” — place a $5+ cash wager, and whether it wins or loses, you get $200 credited to your account as eight separate $25 bonus bets. Any sportsbook that offers bonus bets out the gate automatically intrigues us.

The current DraftKings promo isn’t necessarily the best in the sports betting industry, but it’s still a solid, low-friction offer. To take advantage of the bonus, all you have to do is sign up with a specific link (we didn’t need a bonus code) and make the minimum $5 deposit and wager.

The best part of the current DraftKings bonus is that the bonus bets are available in our account instantly rather than after the wager settles. That’s much better than other sportsbooks that make you jump through hoops or wait days to access your bonus bets. DraftKings also runs a secondary “20% deposit match up to $1,000” offer for bettors who want to put more money to work up front, though the wagering requirement to unlock the full $1,000 is steep enough (roughly $25,000 in cumulative wagers) that it’s really aimed at high-volume bettors rather than casual sign-ups.

Bet on Anything at Anytime

We were amazed at the sheer number of bets you can make at DraftKings. Mostly, if you can think of it, they have it. We’ve tried all of their bet types, but we did have a few that stood out to us—

• Moneyline Bets: This is the most straightforward type of bet where you simply choose which team or athlete will win the event. For example, in a baseball game between the Yankees and the Red Sox, you can place a Moneyline bet on either team to win.
• Point Spread: This involves betting on the margin of victory in a game. The favored team must win by more than a certain number of points for the bet to pay off. For instance, if 7.5 points against the Dolphins favor the Patriots, they need to win by eight or more points for a bet on them to pay off.
• Over/Under (Totals): Here, you’re betting on the total points scored by both teams in a game. You can bet that the total score will be over or under a number set by the sportsbook. For example, in an NBA game with an Over/Under of 215.5, you can bet on the points scored to be over or under this number.
• Parlay Bets: This type of bet involves making multiple selections as part of a single wager. All selections must win for the bet to pay off. It’s riskier but offers higher potential payouts. For example, you could place a parlay bet on the Lakers to win their game, LeBron James to score over 30 points, and the total points in the game to be over 200.
• Futures: These are bets on season-long results or events that will happen in the future. For instance, you can bet on which team will win the Super Bowl at the start of the NFL season or who will win the World Series before Spring Training even starts.
• Prop Bets: These are bets on specific events or statistics within a game unrelated to the final outcome. For example, you can bet which player will score the first touchdown in an NFL game. This is a lot of fun when you’re watching the games live.
• Flash Bets: DraftKings offers this unique type of live betting that allows you to bet on events happening in the next few minutes of a game, like the next team to score. We watched games live and would get the flash bet live on our app.

With a big name like DraftKings, it’s no surprise they have one of the industry’s most extensive collections of bet types. Beyond the core sportsbook, DraftKings has also rolled out DraftKings Predictions, a separate event-contract trading product operated through a CFTC-registered entity — worth knowing about since it’s a different regulatory product from the sportsbook itself, even though it lives in the same app.

User Interface and Experience

These screenshots show just how easy it was for us to use the DraftKings Sportsbook app in our review.

We love that they have plenty of betting options, but if you can’t access the options, how will you place your bets? Fortunately, the DraftKings website and app are both user-friendly. You won’t have any trouble finding the bet you want to make. We logged in, set up our account, and started betting within minutes.

One of our favorite features is their live in-game betting section. This allows you to bet on games as they happen with constantly updated odds. We also like the “flash bets” mentioned earlier, adding an extra layer of excitement to live betting.

The layout and design are clean, with easy-to-navigate menus. We also love that the site is optimized for mobile use, making placing bets on the go easy. Of course, we always recommend downloading the app, which is equally seamless.

One clarification worth making: the app itself (which now also houses DraftKings’ DFS and Predictions products) is downloadable nationwide, but actual sportsbook wagering is still only legal in the roughly 30 states where DraftKings holds a sports betting license. Don’t take “available everywhere” messaging in the app to mean you can place a real-money sports bet from any state.
