Mariners vs. Yankees Prediction: Bronx Bombers Look to Extend Series Lead

Seattle limps into the Bronx on a four-game skid, and the Yankees smell blood after already taking the series opener.

Quick take:

  • Pick: Yankees -1.5
  • Why: Seattle’s offense has gone cold at the worst time, and Will Warren has been nearly unhittable at home this year
  • The number to watch: Yankees are 30-26 at home, but their real edge is a 53.1-inning home sample where Warren has allowed a .268 opponent average

The Mariners (56-63) are fading fast in the AL West race, sitting 4.5 games back of Houston and mired in a four-game losing streak that includes Tuesday’s series-opening 4-1 loss to New York. The Yankees (66-52) aren’t running away with anything themselves — they’re six games behind Tampa Bay in the AL East and dropped their last outing before this series — but at Yankee Stadium, against a Seattle club that’s lost the plot on offense, this feels like a get-right spot for the home team.

Why the Number Keeps Climbing on New York

The Yankees opened as solid favorites and the market has only leaned further their way since Tuesday’s win. Seattle sits at roughly +1.5 on the run line at odds near -210, meaning the Mariners just need to keep it within a run or two to cash that side, while New York is priced around -1.5 at plus money on the alternate line. On the moneyline, Seattle is getting a little value in the +100 to +117 range depending on the book, and New York sits anywhere from -122 to -126. Bettors comparing lines can check live MLB odds before first pitch. The total is set at 8.5, and with both bullpens banged up, the over has some appeal, but the real story is how lopsided the win-probability models have this one — some have New York favored by a healthy double-digit margin straight up.

Warren’s Home Cooking vs. a Mariners Lineup Missing Its Anchor

Will Warren gets the ball for New York and has quietly turned into a reliable innings-eater, sitting at 8-6 with a 4.18 ERA and 114 strikeouts across 114 innings this season. He was rocked for three runs in 5.1 innings in his last start against St. Louis, so he’s not walking in with a hot streak, but his track record at Yankee Stadium is the more relevant data point here — he’s logged 53.1 innings at home with a much tighter profile than his road splits. Seattle, meanwhile, is trying to solve him without Josh Naylor, who’s out of Tuesday’s — and now Wednesday’s — lineup with right wrist soreness, and without J.P. Crawford, who’s been on the injured list with a wrist issue of his own. That’s two everyday bats missing from a lineup that’s already been outscored on this road trip.

Bryce Miller takes the mound for Seattle and, on paper, has actually been the sharper pitcher all season — his 3.08 ERA and 0.95 WHIP dwarf Warren’s numbers, and he’s racked up 79 strikeouts in just 79 innings. But strong individual pitching hasn’t been enough to save Seattle from an offense that’s gone quiet during this losing streak, and Miller will be working in a ballpark that’s historically favored New York’s right-handed power even with Aaron Judge sidelined. The Yankees have also gotten contributions up and down the lineup rather than leaning on one or two names, which makes them harder to shut down for six or seven innings than a club missing multiple regulars.

The Yankees have won three of the first four meetings between these two clubs this season, and they just beat Seattle 4-1 on Tuesday with a similar formula: patient at-bats against a tiring Mariners bullpen.

That head-to-head trend matters. Seattle has had chances against New York this year and hasn’t been able to close the door, and a shorthanded lineup without Naylor and Crawford doesn’t inspire much confidence that Wednesday looks different. The Yankees, even with Judge, Bellinger, and Stanton all banged up, have enough depth to keep grinding out at-bats, and their bullpen has been fresher than Seattle’s down the stretch of this series. Prediction and Best Bet

Seattle’s four-game losing streak, a lineup missing two regulars, and a Yankees club that just found a formula against them on Tuesday all point the same direction. New York should be able to control this one from the middle innings on, even if Warren’s stuff isn’t at its sharpest.

The pick:

  1. Prediction: Yankees 5, Mariners 2
  2. Best Bet: Yankees -1.5

Take the run line here — New York has the pitching depth, the home-field track record, and a Seattle opponent that’s fading at exactly the wrong time to make this a nail-biter. With the Mariners now four losses deep in their skid and the Yankees rolling right along at home, this looks like more of the same from Tuesday’s series opener.
