3 MLB Pitching Props to Back on October 19: Peralta Strikeouts, Outs and the Guardians Bullpen Game

Monday’s MLB schedule is as simple as it gets: one game, and it is a big one. The Cleveland Guardians visit the Tampa Bay Rays for Game 6 of the ALCS at Tropicana Field (8:08 p.m. ET on TBS, truTV and HBO Max), with the Rays up 3-2 and one win away from the World Series. Tampa Bay is a favorite of roughly -138 to -143 with a total of 6.5.

When a night has only one game, pitching props are the best place to focus, and this one has a clear storyline. Freddy Peralta is dealing for the Rays, and Cleveland is planning a bullpen game. Here are three pitching angles, explained in plain English, so you know exactly what you are betting and why.

Freddy Peralta Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+122)

This is the most straightforward pitcher prop there is. A strikeout total asks one question: will the pitcher record more than 4.5 strikeouts, meaning five or more? Peralta is listed at over 4.5 strikeouts at +122 on ESPN, which means a $100 bet wins $122. The under is -155, so the market leans toward the under, and that is what makes the plus-money price on the over interesting.

The recent form says five strikeouts is very reachable. Peralta is 6-0 with a 0.79 ERA in nine appearances (eight starts) since Aug. 26, and he has been just as good at home, with 26 strikeouts against eight walks and a 0.99 ERA in five starts at Tropicana Field during that stretch. In Game 2 of this series he shut out these same Guardians for six innings, allowing four hits and striking out six while topping out at 99.4 mph.

Cleveland also fits the profile of a team that can be struck out. The Guardians ranked third in baseball with 1,530 strikeouts in the regular season and have piled up 120 strikeouts in the postseason. Peralta only needs five of them.

Freddy Peralta Over 14.5 Outs Recorded (+105)

Same pitcher, different market, and this is where beginners often get tripped up. A strikeout prop only counts one kind of out. An outs recorded prop counts every out he gets, whether by strikeout, groundout or fly ball, and 14.5 outs means he needs to get at least 15 outs, or five full innings. DraftKings has the over at +105, so a $100 bet wins $105.

The key difference is that strikeouts measure how dominant Peralta is, while outs measure how long he lasts. You can win one and lose the other. If he strikes out six but gets pulled in the fifth inning, the strikeout bet cashes and the outs bet loses. If he cruises on weak contact for six innings with only four strikeouts, the outs bet cashes and the strikeout bet loses. Betting both leans on the same strong outing from two angles, but it also means the bets are related, so a bad start can sink both.

There are good reasons to expect length. His six-inning shutout in Game 2 was the longest outing of his playoff career. Since Aug. 26 he has held opponents to a .160 batting average and a .447 OPS across eight starts. Tampa Bay’s bullpen has carried a 4.60 ERA in this series, which gives the Rays a reason to let Peralta work deep. One note: he got two outs in relief in Game 4, so he is on short rest, and the pitch count in the early innings is worth watching.

Cleveland’s Bullpen Game: Check Your Book for the Opener

This is the one spot where we are not going to hand you a number we cannot verify. The Guardians have not named a Game 6 starter. Gavin Williams is not available on short rest and is the likely Game 7 starter, so it will be a bullpen game, with right-hander Slade Cecconi potentially opening. Tanner Bibee and Joey Cantillo are also expected to take on bigger roles. We could not find a posted line for any Cleveland pitcher at the time of writing, so check your book for strikeout or outs recorded props once a starter is confirmed.

When those lines do appear, the logic is simple. Cleveland pitchers are likely to be short on outs. Cecconi threw one inning in both Games 2 and 4 and has allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits over his two ALCS appearances. Cantillo has walked four batters with just two strikeouts in three postseason appearances, and Bibee has faced only three batters this postseason. In a bullpen game, nobody is built to go deep, so an under on outs recorded for the opener is a natural place to look, as long as the number is sensible. Wait for the official starter before you bet, because a prop on a pitcher who does not start is usually voided.

Lock These In

Peralta has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last two months, he is at home, and he faces a Cleveland team in scramble mode on the mound. Before you bet any of these, a betting calculator can show you how plus-money odds like +122 turn into real payouts. Compare prices across books, since lines can move before first pitch, and check the live MLB odds for the latest numbers.

  • Freddy Peralta OVER 4.5 strikeouts (+122 on ESPN)
  • Freddy Peralta OVER 14.5 outs recorded (+105 on DraftKings)
  • Cleveland opener outs or strikeouts under (check your book once the starter is named)

One pitcher, two ways to win, and a bullpen game on the other side. Bet within your budget and only what you can afford to lose.
