Thursday Night Football in Baltimore has a strange setup: the team with the better record is a heavy road favorite, yet prediction markets are leaning toward points. The Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2) visit the Baltimore Ravens (4-4) at M&T Bank Stadium tonight at 8:15 PM ET on Amazon Prime Video, and the over/under on one prediction market is set at a surprisingly low 38.5.
On the Jaguars vs. Ravens total, traders currently price the Over at 54.5% and the Under at 45.5%, with roughly $255,000 traded in the past 24 hours. The market resolves to Over if the two teams combine for 39 or more points. In plain terms, the crowd thinks it is slightly more likely than not that this game clears a number that is low by NFL standards.
That low number is the story. Most NFL totals land well north of 40, so a 38.5 line signals that oddsmakers expect a slow, low-scoring night. If you want to compare how sportsbooks are pricing the game, our live NFL odds page shows the current numbers side by side.
Two things are pushing the number down, and both involve the Ravens. Baltimore is in a rough spot at quarterback. Two-time MVP Lamar Jackson hurt his right thumb on the first offensive play against Buffalo last week and is headed to injured reserve. Backup Tyler Huntley is reportedly out for the season with turf toe, which means undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano is set to make his first NFL start tonight.
The Ravens have also been sloppy this season. They have taken 67 penalties and allowed 22 sacks, and their point differential sits at minus 24. Derrick Henry is still the featured back, so expect Baltimore to try to lean on the run and shorten the game around a first-time starter.
On the other side, Jacksonville owns the NFL’s top run defense, allowing just 3.39 yards per carry. The Jaguars have given up only 12 touchdowns in seven games, so Henry will not find many easy lanes. That combination of a rookie passer and a stingy rush defense is why the books set the bar so low.
So why is the market still tilting toward the Over? Because the Jaguars can put up points all by themselves. Jacksonville has the best point differential in the NFL at plus 85, and it just beat the Colts 42-7 on Sunday, a game that cleared its total comfortably.
Trevor Lawrence was sharp in that win, completing 10 of 14 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns. For the season he has 1,690 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and four interceptions through seven games. Parker Washington leads the receiving group with 432 yards and four scores, Jakobi Meyers provides a steady underneath target, and running back Bhaysul Tuten posted a career-high 104 rushing yards against Indianapolis while scoring both on the ground and through the air.
There is also a defensive wrinkle that helps the Over. Baltimore’s defense has let opponents score touchdowns on a high share of red-zone trips, while Jacksonville has allowed a 40.9% red-zone touchdown rate. Add in the fact that a big Jaguars lead could force the Ravens to throw more than they want to, and 39 total points does not feel out of reach. A single blowout, something like 31-10, clears the number by itself.
Jacksonville leads the AFC South by three games and is a sizable road favorite, roughly a touchdown or more depending on the sportsbook. The Jaguars are 4-3 against the spread this season, with the Over hitting in three of their seven games. Baltimore is 2-5 against the spread, with the Over hitting in four of eight.
The Jaguars lead the all-time series 13-11, but the teams have not met in Baltimore since 2020. Jacksonville is also just 7-9 all-time on Thursday nights, and this game comes on a short week after Sunday’s blowout. The biggest swing factor is how Fagnano handles his first start. If he turns the ball over or Jacksonville hits a couple of early big plays, the game can get lopsided quickly and push the total past 38.5. If Baltimore keeps it close with Henry grinding and Jacksonville settles for field goals, the Under is very much alive. Weather should not be a major factor, with temperatures around 60 degrees at kickoff.
As always, prediction market prices reflect what traders believe, not a guarantee, so treat them as one more data point rather than a pick. If you bet on sports, do it within your budget and review our guide to responsible gambling first.
