3 NHL Shots on Goal Props to Back on November 5

Thursday night’s NHL schedule is a full one, and the shots on goal market is one of the cleanest ways to build a card without needing anybody to actually score. A shot on goal is just a puck that forces the goalie to make a save or finds the net. That makes the prop easy to understand and easy to track, and it rewards players who get a steady diet of looks no matter how the game plays out.

Three players stand out on tonight’s board: a rookie who plays big minutes on a first power play unit, a sniper with the highest shot rate on his team, and a veteran center skating for a heavy home favorite. Each one has a role that produces shots, and that matters more than any hot streak. Prices below are approximate and can move, so check your book before you bet.

Roman Kantserov Over 1.5 Shots on Goal

Roman Kantserov (#80, right wing) leads the Chicago Blackhawks in goals this season, and he is doing it as a rookie who skates more than 18 minutes a night and works on the first power play unit. Chicago visits Tampa Bay at 4-10-1, and teams that spend a lot of time trailing tend to fire more pucks at the net. Kantserov is one of the few Chicago forwards with both the ice time and the power play role to turn that into volume.

He is averaging about 1.6 shots per game, so the 1.5 line sits right at his normal output. The edge comes from the opponent and the role. Andrei Vasilevskiy has a .878 save percentage over his last 10 starts, and projection models have Kantserov at around 1.9 expected shots tonight. That gives the over a real cushion at a price near -110 to -130 at DraftKings.

The risk is that the line is low enough that two shots is the finish line, so one quiet night sinks it. A single power play can fix that, and Kantserov sits on the first unit. Compare current numbers on the live NHL odds page before you lock it in.

Dylan Guenther Over 2.5 Shots on Goal

Dylan Guenther (#11, right wing) leads the Utah Mammoth in shots per game this season at roughly 2.9, which already clears this number on average. He skates about 17 to 18 minutes a night and gets more than four minutes on the power play, which is exactly the kind of usage that produces a steady stream of attempts. Over the last three seasons he has averaged just over three shots per game, so this is not a small-sample hot streak.

The matchup is a clean one too. Utah is a slight road favorite at about -112 in Montreal with the total set at 6.5. Projection models land Guenther at about 3.2 expected shots and give him roughly a 60 percent chance to reach three or more. At around -130, you are paying a small tax for a player whose average already sits above the line.

The thing to watch is game script. If Utah builds a lead and protects it, shot totals can dip a little. Even so, Guenther’s power play time gives him a floor that most wingers on the board do not have.

Nazem Kadri Over 1.5 Shots on Goal

Nazem Kadri (#91, center) plays for the Colorado Avalanche, who host the Nashville Predators at 9:30 PM ET, the late game of the night. Colorado is a heavy home favorite, roughly -215 to -240 on the moneyline, and that kind of game tends to put the Avalanche on the attack. Kadri is a regular on their power play.

Kadri has taken 40 shots through 16 games, an average of about 2.5 per game, and he scored twice on four shots against Chicago on Monday. That pace makes 1.5 a low bar. Books have often set his line at 2.5 this season, so 1.5 is a discounted version of a prop he regularly clears, which is why the price is steeper at around -185.

The juice is heavy, so this is the safest leg on the card rather than the best value. If you are new to DraftKings, check the current DraftKings promo code offer before you place it.

Lock These In

Shots on goal props reward role and volume more than luck, and all three players have both. Kantserov gets power play time on a trailing team, Guenther leads Utah in shots, and Kadri is a power play regular for the night’s biggest favorite. Here are the three plays, with prices that can move before puck drop.

  • Roman Kantserov OVER 1.5 shots on goal (about -110 at DraftKings)
  • Dylan Guenther OVER 2.5 shots on goal (about -130 at DraftKings)
  • Nazem Kadri OVER 1.5 shots on goal (about -185 at DraftKings)

Shop the line, keep your stakes sensible, and remember that no prop is a lock.
