3 MLB Strikeout Props to Back on August 21: Misiorowski, Sale, and Schlittler

Friday’s slate is stacked with strikeout artists, and three of the best swing-and-miss arms in baseball are on the mound tonight. When you can lean on a pitcher’s raw stuff, a favorable matchup, and a lineup that’s been chasing everything lately, the strikeout prop market becomes one of the most beatable corners of MLB betting.

Here are three K props worth building into your card tonight, broken down so you understand exactly why each number is in play.

Jacob Misiorowski Has Been Unhittable — and Atlanta Is Cold

Jacob Misiorowski (MIL SP, #32) has been arguably the best strikeout arm in the National League this season. He’s sitting at 12-5 with a microscopic 1.75 ERA and has already piled up 210 strikeouts, a number that puts him near the top of the MLB leaderboard. His 9.1-plus strikeouts per game season average and 13.6 K/9 rate are elite by any measure, and he’s punching out hitters at a top-of-the-league clip start after start.

The matchup only sweetens things. Atlanta’s offense has completely stalled, ranking 27th in production since August 7 and striking out 83 times over its last 10 games. The Braves have been especially vulnerable against fastballs recently, sitting near the bottom of the league in production against that pitch type since early August — exactly the weapon Misiorowski leans on to blow hitters away. Austin Riley alone is striking out at a 31.4% clip during this slide, and he’s far from the only Brave chasing.

Books have Misiorowski’s strikeout total in the 8.5-9.5 range depending on the book, and given his season norms and a Braves lineup that’s whiffing at an elevated rate right now, the over side of that number looks live. Check your book for the exact line before locking it in.

Chris Sale Has Dominated This Exact Brewers Lineup

Chris Sale (ATL SP, #51) doesn’t get talked about enough given the season he’s quietly put together: 12-8 with a 2.16 ERA and roughly 160 strikeouts on the year, backed by an 11.2 K/9 rate that ranks in the 94th percentile among starters. His 30.9% strikeout rate and 30% whiff rate are both elite marks, and he’s riding a stretch of four straight starts with eight or more strikeouts.

What makes tonight specifically interesting is the history against this exact opponent. Sale has posted a 36.6% strikeout rate against the Brewers across 93 plate appearances this season — a huge number that suggests Milwaukee’s lineup simply doesn’t have a great answer for his mix. Books have his strikeout total sitting right around 7.5, with the over priced close to even money at some shops.

Given his form and his track record specifically against Milwaukee, this is one of the cleaner outs-based reads on the board tonight. Bettors looking for value across today’s live MLB odds should see this line move as the day progresses.

Cam Schlittler’s Strikeout Stuff Has Been Trending Up

Cam Schlittler (NYY SP, #31) has quietly turned into one of the more reliable strikeout arms in the American League. He’s 10-6 with a 2.19 ERA and 189 strikeouts on the season, and he’s been trending in the right direction lately — his strikeout prop has cashed the over in 7 of his last 10 outings, a 70% hit rate, while he’s averaging 7.3 strikeouts per game on the year against a line that typically sits around 6.5.

The matchup requires a bit of nuance. Toronto has actually made more contact against Schlittler than most opponents, running just a 17% strikeout rate against him in recent looks even though he owns a 31.4% strikeout rate overall this season. That’s the one wrinkle worth knowing about before you back this number. Still, his swing-and-miss stuff and recent form have been strong enough to clear his total more often than not, and in his last start he racked up seven strikeouts against this very Blue Jays club.

If you’re new to props and want a refresher on how the number is calculated before betting, HelloRookie’s betting calculator is a good tool to have open while you shop for the best line.

Lock These In

All three of these pitchers bring swing-and-miss stuff, favorable recent form, and matchups that lean in their direction. Here’s the full card for tonight:

  • Jacob Misiorowski OVER his strikeout line (check current number, ~8.5-9.5 K) vs Atlanta
  • Chris Sale OVER 7.5 strikeouts vs Milwaukee
  • Cam Schlittler OVER 6.5 strikeouts vs Toronto

Shop the lines before first pitch since strikeout props can move throughout the day, and always confirm each pitcher is a go before locking anything in.
