Maple Leafs vs. Flames Same-Game Parlay: A Beginner’s Guide to Matthews, Nylander and a Toronto Win

The Toronto Maple Leafs head west to face the Calgary Flames on Monday night at Scotiabank Saddledome (8:30 p.m. ET), and it sets up as a nice game to build a first same-game parlay around. Toronto (7-4-2) is coming off a road win in Edmonton where William Nylander scored twice, while Calgary (4-6) is looking to build on a home win on Saturday.

If you are new to betting, a same-game parlay (SGP) simply means combining several bets from one game into a single ticket. Every leg has to win for the ticket to cash, which is why the payout is bigger than a single bet. Today’s three-leg build: Maple Leafs to win, Auston Matthews over 3.5 shots on goal, and William Nylander over 2.5 shots on goal.

Leg 1: Maple Leafs Moneyline

A moneyline bet is the simplest wager in hockey: pick the team that wins the game. Toronto is the favorite at roughly -162 to -164 depending on the book, with Calgary around +136. A minus number tells you how much you must risk to win $100, so at -164 you would risk $164 to profit $100.

The Leafs have the better record and the better form, going 6-2-2 over their last 10 while the Flames are 4-6-0 over theirs. Calgary does hold one edge in net, since Devin Cooley is carrying a .912 save percentage compared to Dustin Wolf’s .834. Toronto’s projected starter is Anthony Stolarz (4-1-0, .907), with Sergei Bobrovsky (.895) as the other option. The price is steep, but the moneyline is the safest anchor for a parlay, and the other two legs are built around Toronto’s stars producing.

Leg 2: Auston Matthews Over 3.5 Shots on Goal

A shots on goal prop asks a simple question: will a player register more or fewer shots than the number set by the sportsbook? Shots are one of the easiest props for beginners to follow because you can watch them add up during the game, and they do not depend on a goalie getting beaten.

Matthews is the obvious candidate. He leads Toronto with 9 goals and 19 points through 13 games and has put 39 shots on net, an average of 3.0 per game. The over 3.5 line is listed at +111 at one book. He is projected to center a line with Easton Cowan and Nick Roslovic, so the volume should stay high. The risk is real, though: 4 shots is a high bar, which is why the price pays plus money.

Leg 3: William Nylander Over 2.5 Shots on Goal

Nylander gives the parlay a second path to cash through Toronto’s top talent without leaning on a goal. His 2.5 shots line is priced around +104 for the over, which means a $100 bet wins $104. After a two-goal night in Edmonton he arrives in Calgary with plenty of confidence, and he is projected to skate on the right wing of Toronto’s second line.

Pairing him with Matthews is a tempting idea, but beginners should know the two outcomes are connected. If Toronto controls the game and spends long stretches in the offensive zone, both players benefit. If the Flames slow the game down, both legs can miss together. That correlation is exactly why sportsbooks adjust the payout on same-game parlays, so always check the final number on your slip rather than multiplying the individual prices yourself. You can also use a betting calculator to see what a stake would return at any price.

The Full Parlay

Putting it together, the ticket is Maple Leafs moneyline, Matthews over 3.5 shots on goal, and Nylander over 2.5 shots on goal. Combined odds will vary by book because each sportsbook prices correlated legs differently, so check your own app for the exact payout before placing it. Expect a plus-money return that is bigger than any one leg alone.

The case for this parlay is simple: Toronto is the better team, its two biggest stars should see heavy shot volume against a Calgary side that is just 4-6, and the moneyline is already built into the ticket. The cautionary note is that three legs means three chances to lose, so keep the stake small and treat it as entertainment. If you are still learning how odds work, compare current numbers on the live NHL odds page before you build your slip.
