Ohio State-Texas Headlines Loaded College Football Saturday: Full Slate Preview and Best Bets

Week 2 of the college football season delivers exactly the kind of Saturday casual fans circle on the calendar. The night’s headliner sends No. 1 Ohio State into the loudest building in the sport to face No. 4 Texas in a game that already feels like a College Football Playoff preview. Earlier in the day, Oklahoma tries to spoil Michigan’s home slate for the second straight year, while two of the sport’s most dominant teams — Georgia and Indiana — face such lopsided matchups that the real intrigue is just how many points they’ll put up. Here’s what to watch.

No. 1 Ohio State at No. 4 Texas: The Game Everyone’s Talking About

This is the one. Ohio State travels to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for a Saturday night showdown between two teams most expect to see again in the playoff. Texas opened as a slight home favorite and the number has held right around -1.5, with the total sitting near 48.5-49.5 points depending on the book — a sign oddsmakers expect this one to be closer to a track meet than a defensive slugfest.

The matchup everyone’s fixated on is the quarterback duel. Ohio State’s Julian Sayin has been nearly unstoppable on the road in his career, and Texas countered with Arch Manning, who’s been just as dominant at home — he’s thrown 40 touchdown passes in Austin, the most by any FBS quarterback since 2024. Throw in Ohio State’s do-everything receiver Jeremiah Smith on the other side, and this game has star power at every skill position. Vegas insiders and national writers are split down the middle on the pick, which tells you everything about how even these two rosters are.

Beyond the star power, this is a legitimate playoff-seeding game in September. Both teams are expected to make the field regardless of the outcome, but an early loss changes the margin for error the rest of the way — especially for whichever team ends up with two Power Four losses come November.

Oklahoma Looks to Spoil Michigan’s Home Opener (Again)

Before the primetime game, the day kicks off with No. 11 Oklahoma traveling to Ann Arbor to face Michigan at noon on FOX. This has quietly become one of the more intriguing lines of the week — Oklahoma opened as just a 2.5-point road favorite and the number has climbed as high as -5.5 or -6 by kickoff week, with the total settling in the 43-43.5 range.

The history here matters. Oklahoma beat Michigan 24-13 in Norman last season, a result that helped solidify the Sooners’ playoff resume down the stretch. Michigan enters this one unranked after needing a last-second Hail Mary just to escape Western Michigan in Week 1 — sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood completed just 12 of 22 passes for 170 yards and was charged with several turnover-worthy throws by advanced metrics in that opener. Oklahoma, by contrast, comes in with no notable injury concerns and a defense that limited Underwood to under 150 passing yards in last year’s meeting.

If Michigan’s offensive line and passing game can’t find rhythm early, this could get away from the Wolverines in front of their own crowd for the second September in a row.

Georgia’s Mismatch Against Western Kentucky

Not every marquee team has a competitive Saturday, and No. 2 Georgia is a perfect example. The Bulldogs host Western Kentucky as a 40.5-point favorite, a spread that reflects the gap between a defending SEC champion and a Group of Five opponent playing on the road against one of the country’s best rosters.

Georgia returns quarterback Gunner Stockton, who quietly put together one of the most efficient seasons in the country a year ago — throwing 34 touchdowns against just five interceptions while leading the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record and another SEC title. Games like this are less about the final score and more about tune-up reps: getting Stockton and the offense into rhythm, evaluating depth, and staying healthy before SEC play ramps up. Expect Georgia’s starters to be efficient early and the margin to balloon by the second half.

No. 5 Indiana Hosts Howard in a Season-Opening Statement

Indiana enters the year as the defending national champion, but this Saturday’s home game against Howard is really about turning the page. The Hoosiers lost Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza to the NFL Draft after he threw 41 touchdowns and led Indiana to a perfect 16-0 season, and this lopsided matchup — Indiana is favored by more than 56 points — gives new-look Indiana a low-pressure setting to find its footing under center and reestablish an identity without last year’s Heisman winner running the show.

For Hoosier fans, the intrigue isn’t the scoreboard, it’s the audition: who takes the majority of snaps, how the offense looks in year one without Mendoza, and whether Indiana’s supporting cast is talented enough to keep the program in playoff contention again this season.

This Week’s Best Bets

Across the marquee action, a few picks stand out as the slate comes into focus.

  • Ohio State at Texas: Take the Over — both offenses have too much firepower for this to stay under 49 points.
  • Oklahoma at Michigan: Oklahoma to cover on the road, given Michigan’s shaky Week 1 quarterback play against a much lesser opponent.
  • Georgia vs. Western Kentucky: Georgia -40.5 is a lot of points, but expect the Bulldogs’ starters to be efficient before backups mop up in the second half.

The headliner in Austin will decide plenty of early playoff buzz, but Saturday’s slate is loaded from noon kickoff all the way through primetime.
