The series shifts to Indianapolis as the Oklahoma City Thunder’s role players got the better of Indiana’s role players in Game 2 to even this series up. After Tyrese Haliburton’s stinker of a game, can the Pacers get back on track behind their two spark plugs off the bench, or will the Caruso-led Thunder bench unit further control this series?
The Montreal-born uber-athletic wing has yet to make a truly positive two-way impact on this series. However, with the absence of Jarace Walker, Benn Mathurin will be an x-factor coming off the bench for Rick Carlisle one way or another.
The young Canadian had two 20-point games in the New York series and showed his ability to get downhill and to the charity strike in the middle of that series. While OKC tends to pack the paint on Haliburton drives, expect Benn to hit some big shots in this game at home where he was able to get to the line much more frequently during the regular season.
The other Arizona Wildcat in this series saw back-to-back 18-minute outings in which he dropped 9 and 11 points. McConnell won’t shock you with athleticism or three-point shooting but he simply makes the right reads while keeping the interior defense of OKC honest.
He is 2/2 from beyond the arc in this series and at home he will feed into the crowd energy where during the playoffs, he’s gone 5 of 7 on this prop at Gainbridge.
While JDub should have a bounce-back scoring night after two sub-par shooting nights, his playmaking remains a massive question mark in this series. SGA has gone for 11 total assists alongside Williams but after a few quick turnovers to start Game 2, a more composed Williams should come out in Indiana that is focused on scoring and defense as well as pushing the pace.
JDub tended to score better while attacking the rim more often away from home. I’d take Shai to get more assists than Williams in this pivotal Game 3 where the secondary star for OKC will be their primary scorer at times.
