Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Houston Astros Game 3 Prediction: May 6, 2026 MLB Pick and Best Bet

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros meet at Daikin Park in Houston for Game 3 of their series at 2:10 PM ET, with the series knotted at one game apiece after a pair of tightly contested contests to open the set. The Dodgers won Game 1 behind their roster depth, but Houston struck back in Game 2 in what may have been the most surprising individual performance of the early season — starter Hunter Brown going seven innings and allowing zero runs against Shohei Ohtani and a Los Angeles offense averaging 5.2 runs per game. Ohtani took the loss in that one, and now both teams turn to their frontline starters for Game 3 as the series hits a pivotal juncture.

Today’s pitching matchup is about as lopsided as it gets this side of the All-Star break. Tyler Glasnow takes the ball for Los Angeles having been absolutely dominant in 2026 — he is 3-0 with a 2.56 ERA, a 0.828 WHIP, and is striking out nearly 11 batters per nine innings. Glasnow has been untouchable when healthy, and his stuff plays up in day games at hitter-friendly parks because his elite velocity and breaking ball create problems regardless of conditions. Houston counters with Lance McCullers, who carries a 2-2 record and a 6.32 ERA into this afternoon’s start. That ERA is not a small-sample fluke — McCullers has an accompanying 1.404 WHIP that reflects genuine command and durability concerns that have followed him throughout recent seasons.

Dodgers vs. Astros Game 3 Odds

Los Angeles is a heavy moneyline favorite at -211, with Houston listed at +173. The run line has the Dodgers at -1.5, and the over/under sits at 9.0 — a total that accounts for the significant drop-off in quality between Glasnow and McCullers. When one team runs out an elite pitcher and the other sends a starter with a 6.32 ERA to the mound, oddsmakers install a high total because the weaker pitching performance is expected to give up runs. The Dodgers are receiving significant public and sharp support in this matchup, and the pricing reflects genuine conviction that Los Angeles will win this game decisively.

Glasnow vs. McCullers — A Historic Pitching Gap

Tyler Glasnow may be the most dominant pitcher in the National League right now. His 2.56 ERA, 0.828 WHIP, and 10.94 strikeouts per nine innings paint a picture of a starter who is missing bats, limiting hard contact, and working deep into games with minimal damage. Glasnow’s career has been interrupted by injuries, but when healthy — as he clearly is right now — he is a top-five starter in baseball. Houston’s lineup, while capable of scoring when things are clicking, does not have the advantage-hitting profile to exploit a pitcher of Glasnow’s caliber, particularly against his elite four-seam fastball and power curveball combination.

Lance McCullers has been one of the more frustrating pitching stories in Houston over recent seasons, battling injuries and inconsistency. His 6.32 ERA entering today’s start tells you that opposing offenses have found ways to damage him, and the Los Angeles Dodgers represent the most dangerous lineup he will face all season. Shohei Ohtani is slashing .240/.382/.432 with six home runs as the designated hitter, and while those numbers are below his sky-high standards, Ohtani remains one of the most dangerous at-bats in the sport when he is locked in. Freddie Freeman (.276, 3 HR) is a steady presence at first base, and Mark Muncy has been outstanding in 2026, posting a .292/.394/.575 line with nine home runs. Behind the plate, Dalton Rushing has been one of baseball’s most productive catchers at .340/.421/.800 with seven home runs — a spectacular offensive season for a player in that position.

Houston’s offense does have weapons. Yordan Alvarez is having a tremendous season, slashing .333/.438/.667 with 12 home runs — one of the most productive lines in the American League. Christian Walker (.308, 8 HR) has been on a hot streak since joining the Astros, and Carlos Correa (.279) provides consistency at shortstop. The Astros can score runs. The problem tonight is that doing so against Tyler Glasnow requires either a sequencing of hits that is unlikely, a few well-placed home runs against a pitcher who rarely gives them up, or Glasnow getting into pitch-count trouble early. None of those scenarios is particularly probable given how Glasnow has been performing.

Houston’s team ERA of 5.75 is the worst in the major leagues — a staggering number for a franchise that was a World Series contender just a few seasons ago. The rotation has been a genuine weakness all season, and sending McCullers against Glasnow on a day when the Dodgers need a series win is a mismatch the Los Angeles offense should exploit.

Prediction and Best Bet

The Dodgers are the right side tonight, and the reasoning starts and ends with the pitching matchup. Glasnow against McCullers in a series game the Dodgers need to win after splitting the first two is a recipe for a Los Angeles offensive breakout. Los Angeles has the bats, the starter, and the motivation to win this game decisively.

The moneyline at -211 is steep, but the value exists in this matchup because the pitching edge is so significant. Glasnow is capable of shutting Houston down completely while the Dodgers’ lineup pounces on McCullers early, and a lopsided Los Angeles win is well within the range of plausible outcomes tonight.

  • Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers 7, Houston Astros 3
  • Best Bet: Los Angeles Dodgers moneyline (-211)

Glasnow is the best pitcher on the field by a considerable margin, and the Dodgers are the most complete offensive team in the National League. Take Los Angeles to win this game and take the series lead heading into the final game of this set in Houston.
