Hurricanes vs. Flames Same-Game Parlay: A Beginner’s 3-Leg SGP for October 18

The Carolina Hurricanes (7-1-1) head to Calgary on Sunday night to face a Flames team that has opened the season 1-6-0. Puck drop at the Scotiabank Saddledome is 8:00 PM ET, and the lopsided matchup makes this a nice place to learn how a same-game parlay works.

A same-game parlay (SGP) simply combines several bets from one game into a single ticket, and every leg has to hit for the ticket to cash. Today’s beginner-friendly build has three legs: Carolina to win, Sebastian Aho to record a point, and Mark Jankowski to score anytime. Odds move, so check your book before you bet.

Leg 1: Hurricanes Moneyline (-220)

The moneyline is the simplest bet in hockey: pick the team that wins the game, overtime and shootouts included. Carolina is a -220 favorite at FanDuel, with Calgary at +180. At -220, you would risk $220 to win $100, so the price already reflects how lopsided this matchup looks.

The Hurricanes are riding a seven-game winning streak and have outscored opponents 32-15 over that run. They have also won their first five road games for the first time in franchise history. Calgary has been outscored 35-14 through seven games, and the Flames have allowed a league-high 16 third-period goals.

The goalies are not officially confirmed, but Brandon Bussi (2.95 GAA, .871 save percentage) is expected to get the nod for Carolina, with Dustin Wolf (4.85 GAA, .834 save percentage) likely in net for Calgary. Wolf’s numbers are the big reason the Flames have struggled. If you want a better price, the puck line (Carolina -1.5) was around +118, but it requires a win by two or more goals, and each of the last three meetings between these teams was decided by a single goal.

Leg 2: Sebastian Aho To Record a Point

A player point prop is another beginner-friendly bet, because a goal or an assist both count. Aho has 13 points through nine games, including six goals and seven assists, and he has four multi-point games already. He has gone over his points prop in six of the nine games where a points line was set. Props like this are a common starting point once you learn how NHL betting odds are priced.

Aho has fired 27 shots this season, and eight of them have come on the power play, producing three of his goals. He skates on Carolina’s top power-play unit, so he gets plenty of chances against a Flames team that is allowing about five goals a game. The one caution is that point lines are typically priced short for a star in a good spot, so expect modest odds on this leg.

Leg 3: Mark Jankowski Anytime Goal

This is the leg that adds the payout. An anytime goal scorer bet wins if the player scores at any point in regulation or overtime. Jankowski has scored in six straight games, the longest active streak in the NHL and a tie for the longest run in Hurricanes history since the franchise relocated. The 32-year-old has six goals through nine games, more than he has ever had points over the same stretch of any other season.

Dimers’ model lists his anytime goal probability at 26.8% with best available odds around +450, a bigger payout than most favorites on this slate. Streaks do not guarantee anything, and a bottom-six forward can go quiet quickly, so this is the riskiest leg of the three. Aho (+180 to score anytime) is a safer goal-scoring swap if you want one, but the price drops with him.

The Full Parlay

Put the three legs together: Hurricanes moneyline, Aho 1+ point, and Jankowski anytime goal. Because each leg multiplies the others, the combined price comes out well above any single leg, though sportsbooks adjust SGP pricing for correlated legs, so the exact number on your slip will differ from a simple calculation. Use a betting calculator to see what a stake would return before you commit.

The case is straightforward: Carolina is the better team by a wide margin, Aho is the engine of their offense, and Jankowski is the hottest scorer in the league facing a goalie with an .834 save percentage. The risk is that all three legs must land, so keep the stake small and treat it as a fun, low-cost ticket. As always, bet responsibly and only wager what you can afford to lose.
