3 MLB Strikeout Props to Back: Skenes, Nola, Williams Highlight Saturday’s Board

Strikeout props are one of the most predictable markets in baseball when you know where to look, and Saturday’s slate has three starters worth building around. Two are riding elite form that sportsbooks still haven’t fully priced in, and one has quietly turned into one of the toughest fades in the league even with a rough season line. All three swing on real, verifiable trends from the last several weeks.

Here’s the breakdown on all three, with the numbers behind each call.

Paul Skenes Is Trending Under, Not Over

Paul Skenes takes the mound for Pittsburgh against the Los Angeles Angels, and the market keeps setting his strikeout total near 6.5 even though his last two starts have both gone under that number with room to spare. On September 1 against the Giants, Skenes lasted just 4.2 innings and struck out four. On August 25 against San Diego, he threw six shutout innings but again finished with exactly four strikeouts. Both nights closed as unders against a 6.5 line.

The season numbers still look ace-caliber on the surface — 179 strikeouts and a 9.97 K/9 across 149.2 innings — but Skenes has been in a rough stretch overall, posting a 5.77 ERA and a bloated walk rate over his last several outings. He’s also thrown a season-high four walks in back-to-back starts, a sign his command has slipped and that he’s not working as efficiently through lineups. Fewer efficient innings means fewer strikeout chances, and the last two results back that up directly.

Betting the under 6.5 strikeouts here isn’t about doubting Skenes’ talent — it’s about respecting the pattern he’s actually shown in his most recent outings against real opponents.

Aaron Nola’s Volume Still Clears the Bar

Aaron Nola gets the ball for Philadelphia against Atlanta, and this is a matchup that leans neutral on paper — the Braves carry a 21.7% strikeout rate as a lineup, right around league average. But Nola’s season-long strikeout total tells its own story regardless of who’s standing in the box.

Nola has racked up 157 strikeouts across 148 innings this season, translating to roughly 5.6 punchouts per outing. His overall line is rough — a 6-10 record and a 4.93 ERA that reflects a tougher year for the Phillies right-hander — but strikeouts and run prevention aren’t the same skill. Nola still misses enough bats deep into games to clear a 4.5 line comfortably even on a night where the results elsewhere don’t go his way. He’s cleared marks in this range in the vast majority of his outings this season, and a neutral matchup against Atlanta doesn’t change the underlying volume he’s shown all year.

This is a bet on workload and swing-and-miss stuff carrying the day, not on Nola shutting anyone down.

Gavin Williams Is Playing at an Elite Level Right Now

Gavin Williams has been one of the best strikeout arms in the American League all season, and he’s somehow been even better lately. He sits at 217 strikeouts through 163 innings, good for a 11.98 K/9 and the second-most strikeouts in the AL. In his last start on September 1 against Toronto, Williams threw seven innings and struck out 13 — nearly doubling his own season-long strikeout line of 6.5 in that outing alone.

Now he draws Detroit at home, and the matchup only helps his case. Williams has been dominant with runners in scoring position all year, holding hitters to some of the lowest opposing averages in recent Cleveland history, which means he’s not just racking up strikeouts in low-leverage counts — he’s closing out at-bats when it matters. His last-10-start average sits at 9.4 strikeouts per game, well clear of any total sportsbooks are offering. Betting the over on a pitcher performing at this level, against a Tigers lineup that isn’t known for working deep counts, is about as clean an angle as the slate offers.

Lock These In

All three of these strikeout props are built on recent, verifiable form rather than season-long assumptions, which is exactly the kind of edge that holds up over time. Check your book for the latest MLB odds before locking anything in, since numbers can shift closer to first pitch.

  • Paul Skenes UNDER 6.5 strikeouts vs. Los Angeles Angels
  • Aaron Nola OVER 4.5 strikeouts vs. Atlanta Braves
  • Gavin Williams OVER 5.5 strikeouts vs. Detroit Tigers

Williams is the headliner here given his current run of form, but all three are grounded in trends that have shown up start after start.
