3 MLB Strikeout Props to Back on August 27: Misiorowski, Cole and Sale

Thursday’s slate is stacked with swing-and-miss stuff, and three of the best strikeout arms in baseball are on the mound within hours of each other. Jacob Misiorowski brings the majors’ most electric fastball to Citi Field, Gerrit Cole gets a measuring-stick spot against Houston at Yankee Stadium, and Chris Sale tries to solve a dangerous Dodgers lineup in Atlanta. All three come with strikeout props that look beatable once you dig into the season-long trends.

These aren’t just “good pitcher” bets — each one lines up with a specific, repeatable pattern in how these guys have racked up strikeouts all year. Here’s the breakdown on all three, plus how to build them into your card. Check your sportsbook for the latest numbers before locking anything in, and if you’re shopping for the best line, our live MLB odds page is a quick way to compare books.

Jacob Misiorowski Over 8.5 Strikeouts vs. Mets

No pitcher in baseball has been must-watch quite like Misiorowski this season. The Brewers rookie right-hander leads all of MLB with 216 strikeouts through 145 innings, running a video-game 13.4 K/9 rate that no other qualified starter is even close to touching. His 1.68 ERA backs up the swing-and-miss stuff — hitters simply aren’t squaring him up, and when they don’t square him up against a pitch this hard, they’re punching out.

The number that matters most here is his season average: 9.0 strikeouts per game. The line sits at 8.5, meaning the market is pricing him almost exactly at his year-long norm, but Misiorowski has topped that norm in two of his last four starts, including a 10-strikeout outing against the Angels and a 9-strikeout game against the Twins. The Mets have chased plenty of high-octane fastballs this year, and a rookie with a 13.4 K/9 doesn’t need much room to clear a total that’s sitting right on his own average.

This is as close to a true talent play as strikeout props get. When the market sets the line at exactly what a guy is already averaging, and that guy has a track record of exceeding his own average against fastball-vulnerable lineups, the over carries real value.

Gerrit Cole Over 5.5 Strikeouts vs. Astros

Cole facing his old team always has a little extra juice, and the underlying stuff backs up more than just narrative. The Yankees ace is sitting on 100 strikeouts across 16 starts this season — a 6.2 K per game average — with a 3.11 ERA that shows he’s still missing bats at an elite level even in a season with some bumps. The projection models have him even higher tonight: one system pegs him for 8.0 strikeouts against Houston, well clear of the 5.5 line.

What makes this a stronger spot than most is the total. A 5.5 line is a low bar for a pitcher averaging 6.2 for the season — Cole only needs six strikeouts to cash, a number he’s cleared in the majority of his healthy, full-length starts in 2026. Houston’s lineup has had its swing-and-miss stretches this year, and Cole at Yankee Stadium, with the extra motivation of facing the organization that developed him, is exactly the kind of matchup where he tends to lock in early and rack up whiffs through the middle innings.

The margin for error here is real. Even a modestly efficient start from Cole clears this number comfortably, and his season-long track record says the low total is the market being cautious rather than sharp.

Chris Sale Over 7.5 Strikeouts vs. Dodgers

Sale draws the toughest lineup of the three tonight, and that’s exactly why this prop is interesting. The Braves left-hander is running an outstanding 11.1 K/9 with 166 strikeouts in 135 innings and a 2.20 ERA, numbers that put him in the Cy Young conversation all year. His swing-and-miss slider has been nearly impossible for right-handed hitters to get on top of, and the Dodgers’ lineup — loaded with exactly that kind of hitter — presents a real strikeout runway if Sale’s stuff is on.

The projection for tonight sits at 6.6 strikeouts, below the 7.5 line, which reflects how dangerous L.A.’s lineup is. But Sale has been remarkably consistent hitting or clearing 7.5 all season, including a 9-strikeout game against Arizona and an 11-strikeout outburst against the Padres in his last two months of work. Even in starts where he’s faced elite offenses, his strikeout floor has rarely dipped below six, and his slider usage tends to climb specifically against lineups stacked with right-handed power — which describes the Dodgers to a tee.

This is the riskiest of the three picks given the opponent, but Sale’s season-long K/9 and his history of missing bats against exactly this kind of lineup make it a live over rather than a coin flip.

Lock These In

All three of these pitchers are performing at a level that makes their strikeout totals look conservative relative to what they’ve done all season. Here’s the full card for Thursday’s slate.

  • Jacob Misiorowski OVER 8.5 Strikeouts vs. Mets
  • Gerrit Cole OVER 5.5 Strikeouts vs. Astros
  • Chris Sale OVER 7.5 Strikeouts vs. Dodgers

Three elite arms, three lines that don’t fully account for how dominant each has been in 2026. Get your bets in before first pitch and track the live odds as lineups get confirmed.
