Bills vs Rams MNF Preview: Odds, Prediction, Best Bet

Two of the last two NFL MVPs will share a field on Monday night, and the venue has history with both of them. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills (3-1) head to SoFi Stadium to face Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams (2-2), a rematch of the wild 44-42 shootout these two teams played in the same building back in 2024. This time it comes in Week 5, with Buffalo looking to answer its first loss of the season and Los Angeles trying to build on a gritty comeback win over Philadelphia. Kickoff is 8:15 PM ET on ABC/ESPN.

Why Vegas Has the Rams Favored at Home

Los Angeles opened as a 3-point favorite and the line has held firm, sitting at Rams -3 to -3.5 depending on the book as kickoff approaches. The total opened at 53.5 and has crept up to 54.5, now tied for the highest over/under of the week, a sign the market expects both Allen and Stafford to put points on the board. DraftKings has Buffalo’s moneyline at +136 to +150 and the Rams at -162 to -179.

That number is notable because the Bills are technically the better record on paper, but the betting market is leaning hard into home-field advantage and some very real concerns about Buffalo’s defense the last two weeks. The Rams have also won three of the last four meetings between these two franchises, and oddsmakers clearly remember how dangerous this Los Angeles offense looked at home in that 2024 shootout. Bettors looking to back either side can find a current DraftKings promo code before placing a wager on this one.

Form, Injuries and the Matchups That Matter

Buffalo arrives off a sobering 29-26 loss in Orchard Park, where Patriots quarterback Drake Maye shredded a young Bills secondary for three touchdown passes, including a late one-handed grab by Efton Chism that proved to be the dagger. Allen was solid but not spectacular, going 23-of-33 for 253 yards with a touchdown and an interception that sealed the loss on Buffalo’s final drive. The warning signs are clear: corners Maxwell Hairston and Davison Igbinosun got picked on by New England, and now they draw an even tougher assignment in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Buffalo is also dealing with injuries up front and in the secondary — defensive tackle Ed Oliver (knee) and receiver Josh Palmer (shoulder) are both out, DJ Moore (shoulder) is banged up, and Dee Alford (ankle) is questionable. The good news for Buffalo: cornerback Christian Benford (toe) is expected back in the lineup, which should help stabilize a group that got torched last week.

The Rams have had their own bumps, needing a furious fourth-quarter rally — 14 unanswered points finished off by two Kyren Williams touchdown runs — just to beat a Philadelphia team that was missing key pieces. Stafford’s numbers (6 touchdowns, 6 interceptions through four games) are a far cry from the MVP form he showed last season, and he’s openly said he’s searching for improvement. Still, the Rams defense has been the real foundation of this team, ranking second in the NFL in yards allowed per game and second in pressure rate. Outside linebacker Byron Young has stepped into a bigger role with Myles Garrett injured and has racked up 3.5 sacks doing it. Aaron Donald is full-go and expected to play after dealing with a back issue, which only adds more juice to a Rams front that could feast on a shaky Buffalo offensive line. Keep an eye on one specific individual matchup: Bills defensive tackle Deone Walker has graded as PFF’s top interior pass rusher with 19 pressures this season, and he lines up across from Rams right guard Kevin Dotson, widely viewed as the weak link on that offensive line.

A SoFi Rematch With Shootout Potential

The last time these teams met at SoFi, in 2024, it turned into one of the most entertaining games of that season — a 44-42 Rams win that saw both offenses move the ball at will. Nothing about this year’s rosters suggests a repeat is impossible. Nacua and Adams give Stafford a true 1-2 punch at receiver, while Allen has shown all season he can put up points in bunches when his offensive line gives him time. With a 54.5 total and two quarterbacks who’ve both won MVP hardware in the last two years, this has the look of a game that could come down to whichever defense makes one more stop in the fourth quarter.

Prediction and Best Bet

Buffalo’s defensive questions are real, and facing a motivated Rams team at home with Donald healthy and Nacua rolling is a tough spot for a secondary that just got exposed by Drake Maye. Still, Allen has a knack for raising his level in big spots, and this Rams defense, while elite statistically, hasn’t faced an offense with Buffalo’s combination of arm talent and rushing threat. Expect a track meet that goes down to the wire, with the Rams’ home-field edge and defensive front proving just enough.

  • Prediction: Buffalo Bills 27, Los Angeles Rams 30
  • Best Bet: Rams -3.5 on the spread

The Rams defense has been one of the stingiest units in football, and Buffalo is walking in banged up at corner against the best receiver duo it has faced all year. With the extra motivation of a prior Bills win still fresh in the building and Donald back at full strength, Los Angeles covering at home is the safer side of this number.
