What Prediction Markets Are Saying About the Red Sox’s Historic Streak and Yankees-Pirates Finale

Sports prediction markets are lighting up this week, and two American League storylines are pulling in the most money. The Boston Red Sox are chasing franchise history against a battered Baltimore Orioles club, while the New York Yankees look to close out a series win over the Pittsburgh Pirates behind their ace. Here’s what the betting markets are saying about both.

Red Sox Chase Franchise History Against the Orioles

Boston enters its Wednesday doubleheader with Baltimore riding a 14-game winning streak, the second-longest in the 126-year history of the franchise and just one win away from tying the 1946 club record of 15 straight. The Red Sox got there by beating the Orioles 6-5 on Monday, July 20, when third baseman Caleb Durbin launched a go-ahead solo home run over the Green Monster in the eighth inning. That win also snapped Baltimore’s own 7-game winning streak, which had briefly been the second-longest active streak in MLB.

Prediction markets have priced Boston as the favorite in this rematch, with implied probability sitting around 56.5% in the prior listing for the series and 24-hour volume near $700,000, making it one of the highest-volume MLB markets on the board. The number reflects more than just momentum. Boston is 51-48 and has climbed out of the AL East basement to sit just four games behind the division-leading Yankees. Since June 19, the Red Sox are 22-5, their best 27-game stretch since their 2018 World Series championship season.

Durbin has been a huge part of that turnaround. Over his last 10 games, he’s batting .351 (13-for-37) with 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 2 stolen bases and 8 runs scored, and since June 19 he’s hitting .304 with 9 homers and an .894 OPS. Monday’s blast was his 10th of the season.

Baltimore, meanwhile, is dealing with a lengthy injury list that has markets skeptical the Orioles can turn things around quickly. Catcher Adley Rutschman is on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation and isn’t expected back until around July 29, and backup catcher Samuel Basallo is day-to-day with right shoulder discomfort. Closer Ryan Helsley is out until roughly late August with elbow inflammation, starter Chris Bassitt is on the 60-day IL with a lower back issue, and infielder Blaze Alexander is dealing with a fractured hand. Longer term, the Orioles have also lost Jordan Westburg to Tommy John surgery and Keegan Akin for the season after his own elbow procedure, while first baseman Ryan Mountcastle remains out with a fractured foot with no clear timetable.

A rainout from July 21 pushed a makeup game into Wednesday’s doubleheader (1:35 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. ET), giving Boston a chance to tie, and potentially break, the franchise record in a single day. With Baltimore now 49-52 and dealing with fatigue after its own streak snapped, the market’s confidence in Boston looks tied directly to health and momentum rather than name recognition.

Yankees Look to Close Out Pirates Series Behind Cole

The other market drawing heavy volume is the rubber match between the Yankees and Pirates at Yankee Stadium, a three-game series that wraps up Wednesday. Prediction markets have New York as a clear favorite in the finale, with implied probability around 61.5% for the Yankees against roughly 38.5% for Pittsburgh, and 24-hour volume in the $139,000-$145,000 range.

The series opened with an 8-5 Yankees win on July 20, punctuated by second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. homering in back-to-back at-bats off Pirates All-Star right-hander Braxton Ashcraft. It was a rough night for Ashcraft, who came in with a 3.49 ERA and 1.11 WHIP but was tagged for 7 earned runs on 9 hits over just 3 innings. Chisholm’s five RBI performance was a season-high for him, even though his overall 2026 numbers (.228 average, 16 home runs, 43 RBI, 26 steals) represent a step back from his strong 2025 debut in pinstripes.

Game 3 features a marquee pitching matchup: Gerrit Cole for the Yankees against Mitch Keller for Pittsburgh. New York improved to 56-44 after the series opener and sits second in the AL East, while the Pirates are 52-48 and fourth in the NL Central. It’s the first meeting between the two clubs this season, which adds a bit of unfamiliarity to a matchup the markets otherwise see as fairly one-sided given New York’s rotation advantage.

What the Markets Are Really Pricing In

Both markets tell a similar story: prediction markets reward recent form and health as much as long-term reputation. Boston’s number isn’t just about a hot streak, it reflects a healthier roster catching an Orioles team that’s lost key contributors up and down the roster. And in the Bronx, the market likes the Yankees not just because of the venue, but because Cole on the mound is a meaningfully different proposition than the beating Ashcraft took two days earlier.

For bettors tracking these lines, keeping an eye on live MLB odds as first pitch approaches is the best way to see how quickly these numbers move once lineups and weather are finalized. Anyone still building out their approach to bankroll management before locking in a wager might also find it useful to run the numbers through a betting calculator first.

  • Red Sox vs. Orioles doubleheader: Boston favored, chasing a 15th straight win and the outright franchise record
  • Yankees vs. Pirates rubber match: New York favored behind Gerrit Cole after a five-RBI outburst from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in Game 1

Both games are worth watching not just for the outcome, but for how much the health and depth of a roster can move a prediction market even in the middle of a long season.
