DraftKings, FanDuel, Fanatics, and Bet365 have pooled more than $10 million into Georgia state legislative races through a super PAC network, making the sports betting industry one of the most influential outside spending forces in the state’s 2026 election cycle. The coordinated effort comes after the Georgia House overwhelmingly rejected House Resolution 450 earlier this year, which would have authorized a public referendum on legalizing sports betting in the state.
The spending flows through Win for America, a super PAC backed by the major operators, which has distributed funds to two subsidiary vehicles operating on opposite sides of the aisle. American Conservative Fund Action Georgia has spent more than $7.8 million backing Republican incumbents and candidates, while American Future has allocated more than $2.2 million to Democratic legislative races. More than 40 individual candidates across both parties have received support, with the selection criteria focused on demonstrated openness to sports betting legalization rather than party affiliation.
Georgia has been the subject of sports betting legalization efforts for nearly a decade without success. The state is one of a small group of large markets where wagering remains entirely illegal, meaning that millions of residents who want to bet on professional and college sports must use offshore platforms or travel to neighboring states. The 2026 House vote on a referendum bill was the first time the chamber formally considered the question, but the bill’s defeat made clear that a significant number of lawmakers remained opposed — some on gambling principle, others on concerns about regulatory structure and revenue allocation.
The industry’s approach of targeting the legislature through outside spending rather than direct lobbying reflects a longer-term strategy to change the political math before the next session. By investing in primary races for incumbents and open seats, Win for America is working to ensure that pro-legalization candidates make up a larger share of the chamber when a new sports betting bill is introduced. Several candidates receiving the PAC’s support have expressed surprise at the backing, and a handful of longstanding gambling opponents have also received funds — the group appears to be playing a broad field rather than a targeted one. Bettors in Georgia waiting for legal options can track the latest legislative news as the 2026 session approaches.
The $10.3 million spent in Georgia is part of a total of $41 million Win for America has deployed in state legislative races nationwide in the 2026 cycle. The group’s filings indicate similar efforts are underway in Texas, the other major remaining holdout state. Both markets represent enormous potential revenue for the major sportsbook operators that have built national footprints since PASPA was struck down in 2018.
Even if the spending reshapes the Georgia legislature, legalization would still require a constitutional referendum to clear the way for legal sports wagering, since Georgia’s constitution currently bans most forms of gambling. The next legislative session begins in January 2027, and whether the sports betting industry’s investment this fall translates into a viable bill will be one of the more closely watched stories in the regulatory landscape over the next 12 months.
