NFL Odds and Best Bets for Sunday, October 8

Oddsmakers for Week 5’s contests have provided some great lines for bettors looking to earn some serious cash. This week’s slate features a mixture of divisional rivals squaring off as well as some of the league’s better teams going against the NFL’s worst, providing bettors with clear choices as to what outcome is expected.

We’re picking the best four bets for the NFL’s Week 5 Sunday games. Parlaying these four bets offers +1200 odds, meaning a $10 bet would payout $130.08 for a successful wager.

Giants +12.5 over Dolphins (DraftKings)

With Saquon Barkley likely to return to action this week, the New York Giants are out to prove their team is better than the 1-3 record it currently holds.

After a miserable offensive performance Monday night against Seattle, the Giants are the league’s worst-scoring offense with only 46 points through their first four games.

The Denver record-setting performance aside, the Miami Dolphins have not been a dominant team. Their other two wins to start the season were by a combined nine points, showing that Miami’s inability to slow opponents’ offenses will make this game closer than oddsmakers predict. Expect New York to cover the spread in a one-score game.

Ravens at Steelers UNDER 38 (BetRivers)

Baltimore enters this game among the NFL’s best defenses, allowing only 1,043 total offensive yards to opponents heading into their Week 5 matchup against AFC North rival Pittsburgh.

The Steelers, meanwhile, are in the bottom 10 of the league for both categories and have conceded over 1,000 yards alone to opposing QBs. Historically, however, these two teams struggle offensively when facing each other.

Out of the last 10 contests, five consecutive times and seven games overall resulted in a combined total of 40 points or less. With two teams and head coaches who know each other so well, expect a defensive, low-scoring contest on Sunday.

Broncos -2.5 over Jets (BetMGM)

This afternoon kickoff is a contest featuring 1-3 teams with opposing strengths. The New York Jets possess one of the NFL’s best defenses despite having played the strongest schedule heading into Week 5.

Denver, conversely, has one of the league’s better offenses, scoring an average of 25 points per contest. Six of the eight games these two teams have played in 2023 resulted in one-score victories or losses.

In picking Denver to cover the spread, the belief here is that the Broncos’ home-field advantage – coupled with a high-powered offense – will offset their porous defense to eke out a win. New York has lost six consecutive road games with their last win coming at Denver in 2022.

Chiefs at Vikings OVER 52.5 (Unibet)

Two high-powered offenses will collide when the Kansas City Chiefs travel north to face the Minnesota Vikings. The game features a pair of Top 10 QBs in Patrick Mahomes and Kirk Cousins, a duo that has combined to throw for 2,220 yards and 19 TDs through the first four weeks.

Expect these high-octane offenses to continue their explosive ways and exceed the 52.5 total points oddsmakers predict for this Sunday afternoon tilt.

This contest’s over/under points total should push 60 or more points, a feat that had been accomplished in 15% of all games heading into Week 5.
