CFB Friday: 2 Best Bets for SMU at Temple

Want to hear a secret about college football? You don’t have to wait until Saturday to win money on this great sport! Thanks to the American Conference, we have a matchup on Friday to hold us over.

The SMU Mustangs will head to Temple to take on the Owls in a 7 PM Eastern Time kickoff on ESPN2. Can the Mustangs cover a big number on the road? Let’s take a look at our 2 best bets! Grab a sportsbook promotion, open a bet slip, and make your picks!

SMU -20.5 over Temple

Losses to Oklahoma and TCU were the only ones that the Mustangs have suffered so far this season. At the same time, their wins have not been over any top-notch opponents either. They are coming off a solid 31-10 victory on the road against East Carolina last week.

Preston Stone was efficient in the win and tossed 3 touchdown passes. The defense was dominant and held the Pirates to 5/20 on 3rd down attempts and under 100 yards on the ground.

Temple is looking to get off the current 4-game losing streak that they are on. At 2-5 on the season, the Owls are close to packing it in for the season. Their latest loss came to North Texas where they turned the ball over 3 times and allowed over 500 total yards to the Mean Green.

Quincy Patterson got his 1st start of the season and threw 3 picks while completing only 40% of his passes. He did use his legs to go over 100 yards on the ground and pick up a touchdown but he will need to be much better against this SMU team.

There is nothing going right for Temple this season and now it seems they are tinkering with their depth chart in hopes of finding something for next season and going forward. SMU trails only Tulane in the AAC standings.

This is one they will not overlook and be sure to put things away early. Truthfully, there is a higher chance that Temple gets shut out here than they do at covering the number here.

Key Trends:

  • SMU is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against an opponent in the American Athletic Conference.
  • SMU is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games played in week 8.
  • Temple is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games.
  • Temple is 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games at home.

SMU @ Temple UNDER 55.5

SMU is likely to have the ability to put up 56 points on their own here but that is still highly unlikely.

Temple is not going to be able to provide any help at pushing this total over and are averaging just 21ppg against much more inferior teams than SMU.

The Stangs should take this one easily but will have trouble getting this total over the number.

Key Trends:

  • The total has gone UNDER in 9 of SMU’s last 11 games on the road.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of SMU’s last 7 games against an opponent in the East Division.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of SMU’s last 8 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Temple’s last 5 games played on a Friday when at home.
