Knicks One Win From a Championship: What Prediction Markets Say About NBA Finals Game 5

The Knicks lead the Spurs 3-1 in the 2026 NBA Finals. Here is what prediction markets and sportsbooks say about Game 5 in San Antonio on Saturday.
Jalen Brunson driving to the basket for the New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are one victory away from their first NBA championship in 53 years, and the prediction market numbers make it hard to bet against them. After completing the largest halftime comeback in NBA Finals history in Game 4, New York leads the San Antonio Spurs three games to one, with Game 5 set for Saturday night at San Antonio’s AT&T Center.

On Polymarket, the most liquid sports prediction market in the world, the Knicks sit at 81 cents on the dollar to win the 2026 NBA Finals, reflecting a public consensus that this series is essentially over in all but name. Game 5 alone has generated over $2.4 million in trading volume in the last 24 hours, making it one of the hottest prediction markets in sports right now.

Where the Series Stands

The Knicks have controlled this series from the jump, though San Antonio has made it interesting. Here is how things have played out through four games:

  • Game 1: Knicks 105, Spurs 95 — New York won comfortably on the road in San Antonio
  • Game 2: Knicks 105, Spurs 104 — A one-point road victory gave New York a 2-0 lead
  • Game 3: Spurs 115, Knicks 111 — Victor Wembanyama erupted for 32 points and the Spurs stole one at Madison Square Garden
  • Game 4: Knicks 107, Spurs 106 — New York rallied from 29 points down at halftime in the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history

Jalen Brunson and the Knicks’ Historic Run

Jalen Brunson has been the engine driving this championship push. The Knicks’ point guard is averaging 27.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists through the 2026 playoffs. In Game 4 he posted 36 points and seven assists while going nine-of-eleven from the free-throw line, maintaining his grip on the Finals MVP race where he currently sits as the -140 favorite.

The Knicks won their first 13 playoff games this postseason, sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers and pushing through to the Finals for the first time since 1999. A championship would end a 53-year drought dating back to the 1973 title.

Game 5: San Antonio Holds an Edge at Home

Even with the series all but decided on paper, Game 5 presents a real test. The Spurs went 32-8 at home in the regular season and they play with an urgency that home elimination crowds create. Traditional sportsbooks have San Antonio installed as 5.5-point favorites, and Polymarket traders give the Spurs a 64.5 percent chance to win the individual game — suggesting a meaningful gap between the series odds and the game-level probability.

Wembanyama will come out with everything on the line. The 22-year-old center averaged 24.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game during the regular season, and his 32-point, eight-rebound performance in Game 3 showed what this franchise is building toward. If the Spurs can force New York into a half-court grind and get Brunson into foul trouble, a Game 6 becomes very plausible.

Can the Spurs Find a Way Back?

No NBA team has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals. The Spurs trailing three games to one face the longest of odds, with prediction markets pricing their title chances at under 19 percent. Stephon Castle added 23 points, five rebounds, and five assists in the Game 3 win, showing that San Antonio is not a one-man operation. But the historical record and the current market both point the same direction.
