3 MLB Strikeout Props to Back on August 31: Harrison, Tolle, and Bradley

Strikeout props are one of the most predictable markets in baseball once you know where to look, and Sunday’s slate hands bettors three legitimate swing-and-miss arms working in favorable spots. Two of them are riding real 2026 breakouts, and the third is a rookie lefty who has been must-watch since the day the Red Sox called him up.

Here are three strikeout lines worth attacking today, with the numbers behind each one.

Kyle Harrison Under 5.5 Strikeouts vs. Cubs

Harrison has quietly turned into one of the better swing-and-miss lefties in the league this year, sitting at 10-3 with a 2.79 ERA and 127 strikeouts across 21 starts for Milwaukee. The strikeout upside is real — but the volume in his most recent outings says the under has value tonight.

Over his last three starts, Harrison has struck out five, eight, and three batters, and he’s completed five innings only twice in his last five outings. That’s a pitcher being handled carefully on pitch count, not one racking up strikeouts deep into games. The Cubs also aren’t an easy strikeout matchup for a lefty — Chicago’s strikeout rate against left-handed pitching sits at a modest 21.6%, middle of the pack league-wide, and this lineup makes contact.

Add in that Clay Holmes has been excellent on the other side since joining the Cubs (2.26 ERA, 10:7 K:BB over his last four starts), which points toward a tighter, shorter-at-bat kind of game rather than one where Harrison is pitching from behind and racking up chases. Five and a half strikeouts is a number Harrison has hit or cleared, but the recent workload trend and a Cubs lineup that doesn’t chase much against lefties make the under the sharper side here.

Payton Tolle Over 6.5 Strikeouts vs. Mariners

Tolle has been one of the best rookie stories in baseball since his debut, and the strikeout numbers back it up: 141 strikeouts in just 125.1 innings across 22 starts, an eye-popping rate for a first-year lefty. He debuted with 8 strikeouts against Pittsburgh and has kept missing bats at nearly a strikeout-per-inning clip ever since — including 13 strikeouts over 9.1 innings in his two starts at Fenway.

The matchup sets up well for the over. Seattle’s lineup strikes out at a well-above-average clip against left-handed pitching — right around 24%, one of the higher marks in baseball — and Tolle’s swing-and-miss stuff plays directly into that weakness. He’s shown he can miss bats against good lineups already this season, and a Mariners club that’s cooled off lately (losers in four straight heading into this series) isn’t the group to snap that trend.

Given his per-inning strikeout rate, Tolle needs only a normal six-or-so-inning start to clear 6.5 comfortably, and the Mariners’ contact issues against lefties make that a realistic expectation rather than a stretch.

Taj Bradley Over 5.5 Strikeouts vs. Tigers

Bradley has been a strikeout machine in his first year with the Twins, sitting at 169 strikeouts through 147.1 innings — fifth-most in the American League — with five separate double-digit strikeout performances on his ledger. He’s coming off an 11-strikeout outing in a loss to Oakland, pushing his season total into elite territory and confirming his stuff is missing bats even when the results don’t fall his way.

Detroit is a good matchup for this kind of arm. The Tigers strike out against right-handed pitching at a 22.4% clip, one of the higher marks in the league, and they’ll be facing a pitcher who has already racked up double-digit strikeouts five times this season. On the other side, Jackson Jobe is still finding his footing as a rookie starter — a 3.93 ERA with just 15 strikeouts through his early starts — which points to a game where Minnesota’s lineup should be doing plenty of damage and keeping Bradley’s pitch count (and strikeout total) climbing deep into the game.

Bradley has topped 5.5 strikeouts in the vast majority of his starts this season, and a Tigers lineup that whiffs at an above-average rate against right-handers gives him every reason to clear it again today.

Today’s Edge

All three of these lines lean on the same idea: recent workload and role trends for the pitcher, combined with how the opposing lineup actually performs against that specific handedness. That combination is a far more reliable signal than season-long strikeout totals alone, and it’s why all three of these numbers look mispriced heading into Sunday’s games.
