If you have never built a same-game parlay, Friday night’s ALCS Game 4 is a friendly place to start. The Cleveland Guardians lead the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 in the series, and first pitch from Progressive Field is set for 8:00 PM ET on TBS and truTV. It is the only game on the MLB board today, which makes it easy to focus on one matchup and one simple ticket.
A same-game parlay (SGP) just means you stack multiple bets from one game into a single wager, and every leg has to win for the ticket to cash. Our three-leg build is the Under 6.5 total runs, Jose Ramirez to record over 0.5 hits, and Nick Martinez to record over 11.5 outs. Each leg is explained below in plain English, and you can see the current price for each at your own sportsbook before you build it.
Leg 1: Under 6.5 Total Runs
The total is the combined runs scored by both teams. If you bet the Under 6.5, you win when the two teams score six runs or fewer between them. The number is posted around Under 6.5 (-112) at FanDuel, and it has moved down from an opening total of 7.5 earlier in the week, which tells you the market expects a tighter game.
The reasons are easy to follow. Martinez shut Cleveland down twice this season, allowing seven hits and one walk over 13 scoreless innings while the Guardians hit just .159 against him. The forecast in Cleveland also calls for rain, wind, and chilly temperatures, and those conditions usually help pitchers more than hitters. Tampa Bay is hitting only .185 as a team through three games and struck out 13 times in Game 3, so the Rays offense needs a spark before it can push the total over.
Leg 2: Jose Ramirez Over 0.5 Hits
This one is the simplest prop in baseball: Ramirez needs one hit, any kind, and the leg is done. Over 0.5 hits for Ramirez is listed at -194 at several books, which is a heavy price because oddsmakers think it is very likely. That is useful for a beginner, because a high-probability leg gives your parlay a sturdy anchor.
Ramirez is 6-for-12 in this series, and he has recorded two or more bases in five of Cleveland’s last six games. Hits are also a great fit next to an Under, because a single or a double does not need a slugfest to happen. A low-scoring game can still have Ramirez slap a base hit in the first inning and call it a night.
Leg 3: Nick Martinez Over 11.5 Outs
Outs recorded is how sportsbooks measure how deep a starting pitcher goes. Three outs make an inning, so 11.5 outs means Martinez needs to get through at least 12 outs, or four full innings. Over 11.5 outs for Martinez was posted at -140 at BetMGM, and both of his starts against Cleveland this season lasted into the sixth inning.
There is a fair warning here, and good parlay builders always weigh the risk. Martinez lasted only 3.2 innings in his ALDS start against the Yankees on Oct. 7, and he has allowed runs in three of his last four outings. But he is 15-6 with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP on the season, and he has had Cleveland’s number. Going four innings is a fairly modest bar for a pitcher who was pitching into the sixth against this lineup.
Check the Starter and the Weather First
Before you place anything, confirm that the game is still on and who is pitching. The Guardians have not announced a starter and are expected to use a bullpen game, and rain is in the forecast for Friday. If Game 4 is pushed to Saturday, the Rays could change starters, which would wipe out the Martinez leg entirely. Wait for the official lineup news, and keep an eye on our live MLB odds page for the latest lines.
The Full Parlay
Put it together and you have a three-leg SGP built around a simple story: a tight, pitcher-friendly night where Martinez works deep and Ramirez still gets his hit.
- Under 6.5 total runs (-112 at FanDuel)
- Jose Ramirez over 0.5 hits (-194 at several books)
- Nick Martinez over 11.5 outs (-140 at BetMGM)
Same-game parlay prices vary by book and the legs are correlated, so the combined payout will differ from simply multiplying the individual odds. Check your sportsbook for the final number before you bet.
