Caitlin Clark’s back is barking again, but Kelsey Mitchell is playing the best basketball of her career, and that combination has the Fever rolling into Chicago as heavy favorites against a Sky team that hasn’t beaten them since last summer.

Quick take:

  • Pick: Indiana Fever -5.5
  • Why: Indiana has won seven straight in this series and Chicago’s defense has no answer for Kelsey Mitchell right now
  • The number to watch: Mitchell’s 24.0 points per game, a career high, on 50.2% shooting

Indiana (19-12, 7-4 in the East) heads to the United Center sitting comfortably in playoff position, even after an 86-84 overtime heartbreaker against Las Vegas on Thursday. Chicago (12-19, 2-9 in the East) is in a different spot entirely — fighting for relevance in a conference where they’ve won just two games all season, even though they’ve scrapped to a respectable 3-2 mark over their last five outings.

This is only the second meeting between these two clubs in 2026, and the first one wasn’t close for long. Indiana pulled away for a 114-106 overtime win back on June 11, with Aliyah Boston dropping 34 points to power the Fever. That result fits a much longer pattern — Indiana has won seven consecutive games against Chicago and nine of the last 10 meetings dating back several seasons.

Why the Line Keeps Climbing

Books opened Indiana around -5.5 to -6.5 and the number has held firm, with moneyline prices on the Fever hovering in the -200 to -225 range depending on the book. Bettors comparing lines can check current markets through a DraftKings promo code before placing anything. The total has bounced between 191.5 and 194.5, reflecting a game that projects as competitive on the scoreboard even if the outcome feels fairly settled. Bettors have leaned hard toward Indiana too, with reported ticket percentages on the spread climbing into the 80s and 90s at various points this week — a sign the public sees this the same way Vegas does.

Mitchell Carrying the Load While Clark Manages Her Back

Caitlin Clark is officially probable for Saturday’s game after being listed with a back issue that’s dogged her for weeks, but she’s played through it, suiting up every time she’s been probable since early July. She’s averaging 21.5 points, eight assists and 3.9 rebounds a game this season and just put up 20 points and eight assists in Thursday’s overtime loss to the Aces, playing all 38 minutes — hardly the workload of someone being managed cautiously.

Aliyah Boston, also probable with a right lower leg issue, has quietly turned in a career year of her own: 16.9 points and 8.3 rebounds a night on 52.6% shooting from the floor. But it’s Mitchell who has been the story of Indiana’s season. She’s putting up 24.0 points per game on 50.2% shooting and 43.8% from three — all career highs — and she torched Las Vegas for 28 points on Thursday. Backup center Damiris Dantas is done for the year after knee surgery, but with Clark and Boston both trending toward the floor, Indiana’s top of the roster is close to full strength.

Chicago has lost seven straight to Indiana and hasn’t beaten the Fever since before this season started.

Chicago’s counterpunch starts and mostly ends with Kamilla Cardoso, who’s having a strong second-year breakout with roughly 14 points and 8.5 rebounds a game while shooting near 58% from the floor. Guards Skylar Diggins and Jacy Sheldon round out the rotation, but the Sky don’t have anyone who profiles as a consistent counter to Mitchell on the perimeter, and that mismatch has defined this series for years.

Chicago is 8-8 at home, and the Sky have actually covered the spread in four of their last five games. That’s the case for some level of competitiveness Saturday. It’s not, however, a case for an upset against a team that’s dominated this particular matchup as thoroughly as Indiana has.

Part of Indiana’s edge here is simple continuity. Coach Stephanie White has had her top three scorers on the floor together for most of the last month, and that chemistry shows up in the numbers — Indiana is 7-4 in a crowded Eastern Conference and has strung together multiple double-digit wins in the past two weeks, including a 123-88 blowout of Connecticut and a 112-98 road win in Portland. Chicago, by contrast, is still searching for an identity beyond Cardoso in the post, and its 2-9 conference mark is the worst of any team fighting for postseason positioning.

The pace both teams play at should also work in Indiana’s favor. The Fever want to get out in transition behind Clark’s outlet passing, and Chicago’s defense has struggled to get back in transition all season, which is part of why the total in this matchup has crept as high as 194.5 at some books. If Indiana can push tempo early, that favors the team with the deeper, more explosive scoring options — and right now, that’s clearly Indiana.

Prediction and Best Bet

Indiana’s offense has too many answers — Mitchell working off the dribble, Boston bullying smaller Chicago frontcourt options, and Clark still finding shooters even while playing through discomfort. Chicago will make winnable stretches of this one, especially at home, but the Fever’s talent gap and their stranglehold on this series both point the same direction.

The pick:

  1. Prediction: Indiana Fever 96, Chicago Sky 87
  2. Best Bet: Indiana Fever -5.5

Lay the points with the team that’s owned this matchup for years — Indiana’s talent edge is real, and Chicago hasn’t shown enough consistency to trust as a live underdog here.
