The Lynx have won six straight and just beat this same Golden State team five days ago — and now Napheesa Collier is walking back into the lineup after a rest night.
Quick take:
- Pick: Minnesota Lynx -5.5
- Why: Minnesota is deeper, hotter, and already has this exact matchup figured out from a week ago
- The number to watch: Golden State is 6.5-point favorites’ opposite tonight — the Valkyries have lost two straight and are 19-16 against the spread all season
Minnesota enters Monday at 31-7 and sitting comfortably atop the Western Conference, while Golden State has slipped to 25-11 and dropped its last two games. The Valkyries already know exactly what they’re walking into at Target Center — the Lynx beat them 77-66 on their own floor just this past Wednesday, and Minnesota has been even better since.
The line opened with Minnesota favored by 5.5 and has ticked up toward 6.5 in some markets, with the Lynx moneyline sitting around -210 to -265 depending on the book and the total hovering near 159.5. That kind of movement usually means sharp money is confirming what the public already believes, and in this case it’s hard to argue: Minnesota has won six games in a row and just handled this same opponent on the road. Bettors weighing a moneyline versus spread approach on a lopsided favorite like this might find a betting calculator useful for comparing potential payouts before locking anything in.
The gap between these two teams’ trajectories right now is stark — Minnesota is rolling, Golden State is scuffling.

Napheesa Collier sat out Friday’s win over Washington for rest, and her return Monday is the biggest development in this matchup. Collier has been dominant in her 10 games back from offseason ankle surgery, averaging 19.0 points and 7.4 rebounds while shooting 51.5% from the floor — she hasn’t scored fewer than 15 points in any appearance this season. Having her back alongside Olivia Miles, who’s probable after tweaking her ankle in Wednesday’s win but has been the engine of Minnesota’s offense with performances like 24 points and 20-point, 7-assist nights, gives the Lynx two go-to scorers Golden State simply doesn’t have an answer for.
Golden State leans on Gabby Williams (14.4 PPG, 1.6 steals) and Veronica Burton (12.4 PPG, 5.5 assists) to carry the offensive load, with Janelle Salaün adding 13.1 points a night. But the Valkyries are already thin up front with Iliana Rupert out for the season, and they’re now riding a two-game skid that includes a loss to this same Lynx team. Kayla Thornton has chipped in defensively, but Golden State’s role players haven’t been able to close the gap when Minnesota’s stars get going.
Minnesota has won 9 of its last 10 games and beaten Golden State by 11 points the last time these two teams met.
That kind of recency matters. Golden State’s coaching staff will make adjustments, but Minnesota’s system — anchored by Collier inside and Miles orchestrating — has proven difficult to disrupt on short turnaround. Minnesota is also getting timely shooting from the perimeter, with Kayla McBride recently setting a WNBA record with 10 three-pointers in a single game, even though she’s dealing with a quad issue that could limit her Monday. Courtney Williams is also day-to-day with a leg injury, so Minnesota isn’t at full strength either — but the Lynx have the depth to absorb those absences in a way Golden State can’t match right now.
Golden State has shown it can hang for stretches, and a back-to-back few days after their last meeting means fatigue is a real factor for both sides. But Minnesota’s combination of health at the top of the roster, a six-game winning streak, and a psychological edge from last week’s result points to another comfortable night at Target Center.
