Dodgers-Braves NLDS Game 3 Same Game Parlay: Beginner-Friendly Picks for Wednesday

Game 3 of the NLDS is one of those matchups that makes same-game parlays fun for newer bettors: two elite starting pitchers, a handful of superstar hitters, and a series tied at one game apiece. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves meet Wednesday at 6:00 PM ET at Truist Park, with ace right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto taking the ball for Los Angeles against Atlanta’s longtime Cy Young winner, Chris Sale. If you’re new to parlay betting, this is a great game to practice on because the storylines line up cleanly with the numbers.

We’re building a simple 4-leg same-game parlay here, mixing a pitcher strikeout prop, two hitter props, and a game total. Nothing exotic — just picks that make sense once you look at the matchup. If you want to check the live number on your sportsbook before placing anything, this site’s live MLB odds page is a quick way to compare books side by side.

Leg 1: Chris Sale Over 7.5 Strikeouts

Sale is 37 years old and still one of the most dominant strikeout pitchers in baseball. He closed the regular season with a 2.16 ERA and 200 strikeouts over 162.2 innings — his ninth career 200-strikeout season — and he’s especially nasty at home, where Truist Park has been close to a fortress for him all year. Sportsbooks have his strikeout total set at 7.5, priced around +119 for the over on most major books (Kalshi has even offered 8+ strikeouts as a standalone market, a sign of how confident the market is in his swing-and-miss stuff).

For a beginner, strikeout props on a true ace like Sale are one of the easier legs to understand: you’re simply betting that a pitcher who averages close to 7 strikeouts a start, and has put up double-digit K games multiple times this season, can clear 7.5 against a Dodgers lineup that strikes out at an above-average clip. Sale has actually owned this matchup historically, including an 11-strikeout shutout against the Dodgers earlier this season.

Leg 2: Freddie Freeman Over 1.5 Total Bases

Freddie Freeman has quietly been one of the best hitters alive against Chris Sale specifically — he’s 5-for-16 with two doubles and two home runs across their head-to-head history, a .813 slugging percentage in a small sample that still tells a clear story. Oddsmakers have priced Freeman’s over on 2+ total bases at roughly +203, which means the market is paying out well above even money on a hitter with a track record of making hard, extra-base contact in exactly this matchup.

Total bases props are a good starting point if you’re learning how parlays work: a single only counts for one base, so you need Freeman to either record an extra-base hit or pick up two separate hits in the game. Given his career numbers against Sale and his standing as one of the most consistent contact hitters in the sport, this is a reasonable bet to build into the parlay rather than the riskiest leg.

Leg 3: Teoscar Hernandez Over 0.5 Hits

This is the “safety leg” of the parlay — the one designed to have the highest hit probability, even though it pays the least on its own. Teoscar Hernandez has been a steady presence in the middle of the Dodgers order all season, and getting just one hit in a game is a far lower bar than a multi-hit or extra-base prop. Books have priced this leg in the -145 range, reflecting how likely it is to cash.

New parlay bettors often make the mistake of stacking four risky legs together. Mixing in at least one high-probability leg like this — even though it lowers your overall payout slightly — is exactly how more experienced bettors build sustainable same-game parlays instead of just chasing the biggest number.

Leg 4: Under 7.5 Total Runs

With Yamamoto and Sale both on the mound, oddsmakers have treated this as a genuine pitchers’ duel. Total runs for the game have been set at a notably low number for a potential postseason slugfest, with the under priced near -114 on most books. Yamamoto has been nearly untouchable against Atlanta in his career, posting a 0.55 ERA across three career starts versus the Braves, and Sale has been every bit as dominant at Truist Park (21-5, 2.20 ERA there over parts of his career). When both starters have this kind of track record, a lower-scoring game is the expected outcome rather than the upset.

The Full Parlay

Combined, these four legs — Chris Sale Over 7.5 Strikeouts, Freddie Freeman Over 1.5 Total Bases, Teoscar Hernandez Over 0.5 Hits, and Under 7.5 Total Runs — build a parlay rooted entirely in what both teams do best: shut down opposing lineups and let a handful of star hitters create the offense. None of these legs require a longshot outcome; they’re built around two future Hall of Fame-caliber arms and two hitters who have performed exactly this way against these specific opponents before. If you want to size your stake or see the payout before placing it, run the numbers through this site’s betting calculator first.
