Play of the Day: Cubs (+115 at BetMGM)

The Chicago Cubs (22-16) head to Pittsburgh to faceoff with the Pirates (17-21) in a 3-game series. This will be the start of a 6-game road trip for the Cubs. Chicago is currently at .500 in the month of May. They are coming off an ugly 9-0 loss in their last game to the Padres.

Dylan Cease, who struck out 12 over 7 shutout innings, was seemingly untouchable in this one. Pittsburgh has had similar struggles in the month of May. They are currently 3-4 in the month and are also coming off a loss. Los Angeles defeated them 5-4 on Wednesday.

The Pirates blew a 4-2 midway through the game and were never able to mount a late comeback. Javier Assad who is currently 3-0 in the season has one of the best ERAs in the league at 1.66. He threw 6 shutout innings and struck out 4 while in his last start which came against the Brewers.

The Pirates will counter with Jared Jones, who has struck out 52 while walking just 5 this season. He is just 2-3 on the year but that is mostly due to some poor run support. He struck out 10 in 7 scoreless innings against Colorado in his latest start. The lack of run support is likely to continue for the Pirates in this one as they are going to have a hard time getting to Javier Assad.
