Thursday’s NHL slate is a good one for anyone who likes to bet on volume. Three games, three high-usage shooters, and three matchups that should hand them plenty of looks. Shots on goal props are one of the friendliest ways to start betting player markets, because you do not need a puck to find the net, you just need it to be pointed that way.
Here is the idea behind each pick: a player who shoots a lot, gets heavy minutes, and faces a game environment that keeps pucks coming. Our projections have all three clearing 3.5 shots, which puts a 2.5 line well inside their comfort zone.
Macklin Celebrini Over 2.5 Shots on Goal
Celebrini is the engine of the San Jose offense, and the workload backs it up. He is averaging nearly 23 minutes a night and is a fixture on the top power-play unit, which is where a lot of his shots come from. He has five goals and 10 assists so far this season, and he has not been quiet at the net: he fired seven shots in a shootout loss to Detroit on October 18 and four more against Buffalo on Tuesday. His last five games have gone 5, 6, 2, 1 and 4 shots, so he has cleared three in three of them.
The matchup helps too. Vancouver comes to San Jose at 3-10-1, and the Sharks are a heavy home favorite at -196. When a team is favored at home, the star on the top line tends to see more offensive-zone time, which means more chances to shoot. Our model projects about 3.8 shots and gives Celebrini a 71 percent chance to get to three or more. Puck drop at SAP Center is 10 p.m. ET, so check your book for the current line and price before you lock it in.
Jason Robertson Shots on Goal in Dallas
Robertson is a pure shooter, and he is quietly consistent about it. He has 39 shots in 12 games this season, and he finished with three shots in each of his last two outings, including a 2.5 line against the Islanders on October 25 that he cleared. His projection tonight against Montreal is about 3.7 shots, with a 69 percent chance to reach three or more.
The reason to like this one is volume and role. Robertson plays on Dallas’s top line, sees power-play time, and is at home at American Airlines Center. Montreal has picked up a point in five straight games, which usually means a tight game with both teams trading shots, and Robertson’s shot volume does not depend on the Stars blowing anyone out. Puck drop is 8 p.m. ET. Because the line can sit at 2.5 or 3.5 depending on the book, check your book before you play it, and treat the over as the play at 2.5.
Alex DeBrincat Over 2.5 Shots on Goal Against Chicago
If you want a pick with a clean story, it is DeBrincat. He is averaging 3.67 shots per game this season, with 44 shots in 12 games, and his recent log shows 5, 4, 3 and 2 shots across his last four games. That includes a five-shot night in Seattle on October 20 where he also scored his 300th career goal.
The matchup is what pushes this one into the strongest tier on the board. Chicago grades out as the softest five-on-five matchup on the slate for a shooter, roughly a 15 percent boost over his normal rate. Detroit is also at home at Little Caesars Arena, and DeBrincat is a natural fit for a shot-heavy line: a quick winger who finds the right spots and shoots early. Our projection puts him at about 3.5 to 3.7 shots. First puck drop is 7:30 p.m. ET, so this is the earliest of the three. Prop lines were not posted everywhere when we checked, so confirm the number at your book. If you are comparing prices along the way, our live NHL odds page is a handy place to start.
Lock These In
All three picks come down to the same simple recipe: heavy minutes, a proven shot habit, and a favorable game environment. Shots props will not give you a thrill on every shift, but they reward patience and clean research. If you are new to prop betting, our betting calculator can help you see what a payout looks like before you place anything.
