The Dodgers have the division locked up and a rotation banged up enough to worry about October, while the Giants are just playing out the string — but that gap in stakes is exactly why Los Angeles should be favored as heavily as it is.
Quick take:
- Pick: Dodgers moneyline
- Why: San Francisco’s lineup is missing Rafael Devers and Willy Adames, and Cesar Perdomo has to out-pitch a red-hot Dodgers offense that’s mashed its way to a 66-23 record when it collects at least eight hits
- The number to watch: Giants are 28-50 on the road this season
Los Angeles enters Friday at 93-60, comfortably first in the NL West and playing out a soft landing into the postseason at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium. San Francisco, meanwhile, sits at 64-89, 29 games back in fourth place, with nothing to play for but pride and evaluation time for younger players. The Giants did just take two of three from the Cardinals to snap a mini-funk, but that form doesn’t carry much weight against a Dodgers team that’s 47-28 at home.
What the Betting Market Already Knows
Oddsmakers have this about as lopsided as a September game gets: Dodgers -313, Giants +244, with the total sitting at 8 runs. That’s essentially the market saying Los Angeles wins roughly three times out of four, and the pitching matchup backs it up — Tyler Glasnow (4-1, 3.50 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 77 strikeouts) takes the ball against Cesar Perdomo (0-1, 3.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 11 strikeouts), a clear talent and track-record gap. Recent Form
Both clubs have actually trended the same direction over their last five games, but the underlying context couldn’t be more different — LA is playing meaningful innings ahead of October while San Francisco is auditioning names for next year’s roster.

A Depleted Giants Lineup Walks Into a Loaded Dodgers Bullpen
San Francisco’s injury report reads like a demolition site right now. Rafael Devers underwent core muscle surgery on Sept. 13 and is done for the year. Willy Adames has been out since late August with a sprained elbow and is questionable for the rest of the season. Casey Schmitt, Matt Chapman and Marcelo Mayer are all compromised or sidelined as well, gutting the middle of a lineup that was already 29 games out of first place. Kyle Eldridge has been one of the few bright spots, hitting in 10 of his last 11 games and slashing .327/.414/.558 with six homers over his last 30 outings — but one hot rookie bat isn’t enough to offset that much missing production.
The Dodgers aren’t fully healthy either — Shohei Ohtani (biceps), Roki Sasaki (finger) and Dalton Rushing (elbow) are all out, and Blake Snell exited his last start early with a recurring groin issue. But Kyle Tucker, the Dodgers’ big offseason addition wearing No. 23, torched Cincinnati for four hits in an 8-2 win on Thursday, and the bullpen behind Glasnow is playing at a different level than anything San Francisco can counter with. Tanner Scott has 22 saves and a 2.87 ERA, Alex Vesia is sitting at 2.83, and Justin Dreyer has been steady at 3.19 — that’s a trio capable of shutting a depleted lineup down over the final three innings if Glasnow hands them a lead.
The Giants are 16-27 in one-run games this season.
That number matters here. If Perdomo somehow keeps this close into the middle innings, San Francisco’s track record says they still find a way to lose the tight ones. Combine that with a 28-50 road record and a lineup that’s lost two of its best hitters for the year, and the path to an upset gets very narrow. Glasnow doesn’t need to be dominant — he just needs to avoid a disaster start, and the Dodgers’ offense and bullpen do the rest.
Prediction and Best Bet
Los Angeles should handle this one comfortably at home. Glasnow’s strikeout stuff and the Dodgers’ deep bullpen give them multiple paths to victory even on a night the offense goes cold, and San Francisco’s shorthanded lineup doesn’t have the firepower to hang around late against L.A.’s late-inning arms.
The pick:
- Prediction: Dodgers 6, Giants 2
- Best Bet: Dodgers on the moneyline
The Devers and Adames injuries are the whole story for San Francisco right now, and until that changes, betting against a Dodgers team playing meaningful home games in September is a tough sell.
