Portland has beaten Seattle three times this season by a combined 17 points, and the Fire get a fourth crack at a season sweep on the Storm’s home floor.
Quick take:
- Pick: Portland Fire +2.5
- Why: The Fire have won every meeting this season and match up well with Seattle’s undersized backcourt
- The number to watch: Portland is 3-0 head-to-head this season, winning by an average of just 5.7 points a game
The Seattle Storm (7-28) host the Portland Fire (13-20) Friday night at Climate Pledge Arena, and for once Seattle enters off some actual momentum. The Storm snapped an 11-game losing streak — their second double-digit skid of the season, a WNBA first — with a 97-88 win over Chicago in their last outing. Portland, meanwhile, is coming off a tough 85-81 home loss to Minnesota after having won the first two meetings of this season series comfortably.
This is the fourth and final meeting between these two teams in 2026, and Portland has taken all three so far — a 94-89 win in Portland back in June, a 77-72 road win in Seattle in July, and a 100-93 win at home in Portland just six days ago on August 8.
A Rivalry Series Seattle Can’t Solve
Vegas has this one closer than the head-to-head history suggests. Seattle opened as a small home favorite in the -2.5 to -4 range depending on the book, with the total sitting right around 180.5-181.5 points — nearly identical to the three prior meetings, which have all landed in that scoring neighborhood. Bettors checking the live betting odds tonight will see that gap has held steady since the line opened. The market’s read is straightforward: Seattle gets a boost from the crowd at Climate Pledge Arena and some fresher legs off the Chicago win, but Portland’s season-long edge in this matchup is hard to fully erase with a home-court bump alone.

Malonga’s Breakout Complicates the Blowout Narrative
Seattle’s saving grace all season has been rookie center Dominique Malonga, who’s averaging 16.9 points and 8.7 rebounds a game and has been rewriting parts of the WNBA record book as the year has gone on. She’s the one Storm player who can single-handedly change a game’s math, and in the August 8 meeting she still managed 31 points on 15-of-20 shooting even in a loss. If she gets going early against a Portland frontcourt that leans on Emily Engstler and Megan DiLeo, this could turn into the shootout the total is pricing in.
Portland’s counter is balance. Carla Leite is running the show at 15.5 points and 6.2 assists a game, Bridget Carleton has been steady at 14.3 points and 39.6% from three, and Sarah Ashlee Barker has quietly shot 50.2% from the field off the bench. In the last meeting, Carleton put up 24 points on four made triples to push Portland past Seattle’s 11-game skid-breaking effort.
Portland is a perfect 3-0 against Seattle this season, winning by 5, 5, and 7 points — never more than a single-digit margin, but never truly threatened either.
That consistency matters more than either team’s overall record here. Seattle’s defense has allowed 88.6 points a game on the year, and Portland’s guards have carved that up all season regardless of venue. Home court hasn’t mattered in this series — Portland has now won in Portland, in Seattle, and in Portland again.
Prediction and Best Bet
Seattle’s newfound confidence off the Chicago win and Malonga’s individual dominance make this closer than a blowout, but nothing about this season series suggests Portland suddenly can’t solve the Storm. Expect another tight finish that ultimately goes the Fire’s way.
The pick:
- Prediction: Portland Fire 91, Seattle Storm 87
- Best Bet: Portland Fire +2.5
Four meetings, four wins, and this one comes down to Portland’s guards making one more play than Seattle’s rookie phenom can answer.
