4 Underdog Fantasy MLB Props for Wednesday, June 21

Happy Wednesday to all who celebrate! We’ve got a doozy of an MLB slate on our hands this evening, with 15 games taking place.

Even though there’s still plenty of season left, we believe that that playoff field is already taking shape, with many teams getting out to a dominant lead.

We have also seen several players establish themselves as elite contributors to their respective teams. With that in mind, let’s take a look at our favorite MLB player props today, which are powered by Underdog.

AJ Smith-Shawver UNDER 5 Strikeouts

Smith-Shawver is making his fourth career start in the MLB tonight. The Braves are facing off against the Philadelphia Phillies, who are a top-seven team when it comes to strikeouts.

While this might indicate that Smith-Shawver will record a lot of strikeouts tonight, we’re going in the other direction. He did have six strikeouts in his last start, which came against a struggling Rockies team.

Due to the Phillies’ resurgence, along with Smith-Shawver’s lack of MLB experience, we are recommending taking the under on his strikeout total. Plus, he hasn’t thrown for more than six innings in a game yet this year, which limits his opportunity for strikeouts.

Garrett Whitlock OVER 5.5 Strikeouts

We love the over in this spot for Garrett Whitlock tonight. Not only is he facing off against the Minnesota Twins, who lead the league in overall strikeouts, but he’s coming off two straight wins.

He struck out six against the Yankees and seven against the Rockies. The Red Sox seem to have the Twins’ number, putting up 10 runs against them in yesterday’s contest.

Look for the team to get off to another hot start, giving Whitlock the confidence he needs to soar over his strikeout total.

Paul Blackburn OVER 3.5 Strikeouts

We get it. The Guardians don’t tend to strike out a lot, which is the likely reason for Blackburn’s low line of 3.5 strikeouts. However, this is such a low total for a starting pitcher that we have no choice but to take the over on this total.

Even though the Athletics have struggled this season, Blackburn’s pitching has actually been a bright spot for them. His record may be 2-2 on the year, but Blackburn tends to attract strikeouts.

He’s struck out at least five batters in three of his four starts on the year, which includes a nine-strikeout performance against the mighty Rays. We expected this line to be closer to 5.5 for tonight’s contest, so look for Blackburn to cash the over early in this game.

Bryce Harper OVER 1.5 Total Bases

Is Bryce Harper back? He’s achieved at least two hits in his last three games and appears to be back to his normal self. Harper is batting .296 on the season and continues to get back into form.

Plus, he and the Phillies are facing off against Smith-Shawver tonight, a pitcher with little MLB experience. We expect Harper and the Phillies to jump on this opportunity, which should result in a hit parade. Look for Harper to continue his streak tonight, totaling at least two bases.
