3 MLB Strikeout Props to Back on May 18, 2026

Three starting pitchers with legitimate edges in tonight's strikeout prop market — including Shane McClanahan and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in marquee matchups.
Shane McClanahan

Monday’s MLB slate is loaded with 14 games, which means the strikeout prop market is wide open — and three starters in particular have matchups that make their punchout totals worth targeting. These are not guesswork picks; each one is backed by recent performance, lineup context, and a number that feels a little too low.

Sportsbooks are pricing these lines based on season averages, but several of tonight’s starters have been trending sharply upward with the bat. Here are three strikeout props worth putting real money on on May 18, 2026.

Shane McClanahan Is Rolling — and the Orioles Won’t Slow Him Down

Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan gets the Orioles at home tonight at Tropicana Field, and his strikeout line sits at over/under 5.5 on most books. At -110 on FanDuel, that is one of the better values on the board today.

McClanahan owns a 2.27 ERA across eight starts this season, sporting a 0.98 WHIP in 39.2 innings. He is averaging 5.13 strikeouts per start, but that number is suppressed by a couple of short outings earlier in the year. When you look at his last two starts, he punched out seven batters in each — against Toronto on May 12 and against Minnesota on April 25. That is a pitcher trending in the right direction.

Baltimore ranks in the bottom third of the league in strikeout avoidance. Their lineup makes contact, but not the hard kind, and they are frequently susceptible to left-handed pitchers with good command. McClanahan’s sinker-heavy approach generates weak contact and ground balls when hitters do make contact, but his four-seam fastball up in the zone has been his punchout weapon this month. Expect him to be aggressive early in counts against a Baltimore lineup that is not loaded with disciplined hitters who can foul off quality offerings.

The FanDuel price of -110 gives you even-money odds on a pitcher who has gone over this number in two straight starts and whose underlying metrics support continued strikeout production.

Framber Valdez Has Found His Punch-Out Game Again

Framber Valdez signed a massive three-year deal with the Detroit Tigers this winter, and his season has been inconsistent — but his last start showed what this guy is capable of. Against the Mets on May 13, Valdez went 6.2 innings and struck out seven batters. That was exactly the kind of outing Tigers fans expected when the team committed $115 million to the veteran left-hander.

Tonight, Valdez faces the Cleveland Guardians at Comerica Park. His strikeout line is set at over 4.5 at -122 on FanDuel, which the analytics models believe is a soft number. The Guardians do not strike out at an elite rate, but they struggle with left-handed pitchers, and Valdez’s curveball and changeup are particularly effective against right-handed lineups. Cleveland’s lineup has faced Valdez before and has not cracked him cleanly since he moved to the AL Central.

The 4.5 line accounts for the fact that Valdez has not been his most dominant at home this season. But here is the thing: last start, he showed off a sharper breaking ball and located his sinker more consistently than he had all year. When Valdez is throwing his curveball for strikes early in at-bats, he sets up the strikeout pitch perfectly. The model gives this one a 62.9% probability at -122 — that is a positive expected value play at the right price.

If you are new to strikeout props, the concept is straightforward: you are betting on whether a pitcher will record more or fewer than a set number of strikeouts in his start. In this case, you are betting Valdez fans at least five Cleveland hitters tonight.

Why Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s 6.5 Line Looks Soft at Petco Park

The nightcap on the West Coast puts Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound at Petco Park against the Padres, and his strikeout line of over 6.5 at -104 is practically a coin flip in odds while offering a meaningful edge. Yamamoto has averaged exactly 6.0 strikeouts per start this season, but that figure is being dragged down by one rough early outing — his last two starts were 8 Ks and 8 Ks, against San Francisco on May 12 and at Houston on May 4.

Petco Park in San Diego suppresses offense better than most ballparks in the league, which keeps pitch counts manageable and allows starting pitchers to go deeper into games. The longer Yamamoto stays in, the more opportunities he has to add strikeouts. His 8.64 strikeouts per nine innings this season ranks among the best in the National League, and he is working a full four-pitch mix that gives opposing hitters a very difficult time.

The Padres are a disciplined lineup, but they have had difficulty squaring up power right-handers. San Diego’s batting average against righties ranks in the lower half of the league, and Yamamoto’s splitter is one of the most difficult pitches to make hard contact against. At -104, this is a near pick-em price on a pitcher who has punched out eight batters in each of his last two starts. That is real value.

Lock These In Tonight

All three of these strikeout props come from pitchers who have shown strong recent form and face matchups that should support punchout production. Here is the quick summary for tonight.

  • Shane McClanahan OVER 5.5 Strikeouts (-110 FanDuel)
  • Framber Valdez OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (-122 FanDuel)
  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto OVER 6.5 Strikeouts (-104)

If you are looking to parlay any two of these together, check your sportsbook’s sportsbook promotions page for boosted parlay offers — several books regularly run enhancements on MLB player props. As always, shop lines before placing your bets. There is often half a unit or more of value sitting between books on the same prop. Good luck tonight.
