VidantaWorld Mexico Open DFS Picks: Lineup Strategy, Value Plays and Sleepers at Vidanta Vallarta

Build around iron play and driver distance at a shortened Vidanta Vallarta, and use the $6,000 tier to pay for stars, because more than half of the 120-man field is going to see the weekend.

Quick take:

  • Top play: Doug Ghim ($9,400 on DraftKings)
  • Why: He ranks first in this field in strokes gained tee-to-green over his last 24 rounds and has top-20 finishes in five straight starts.
  • The number to watch: 7,337 yards, roughly 100 yards shorter than last year, which narrows the gap between bombers and precision players.

The VidantaWorld Mexico Open moves to the fall this year and opens a two-week Mexico swing on the PGA Tour. Vidanta Vallarta is a par 71 playing 7,337 yards on wall-to-wall paspalum, with wide fairways, more than 100 bunkers and water in play on 13 holes. It sits at sea level, so nobody gets a distance boost, and the afternoon wind off the Pacific can matter.

The renovation changed the card in a real way. The 18th used to be a par 5 and is now a 455-yard par 4, the fourth is a 423-yard par 4 instead of a 520-yard one, and the 13th is now a drivable par 4. With a top-65-and-ties cut in a 120-player field, lineup construction is less about avoiding the cut and more about finding players who can pile up birdies on a course where 20 under has been the winning number. If you want to see how the books are pricing the field before you lock lineups, the live golf odds page is a quick comparison point.

Where the Chalk Sits and Where the Leverage Is

Wyndham Clark ($10,900) is the obvious headliner as the highest-ranked player in the field, and Tom Kim ($10,100) and Ben James ($10,200) are right behind him. Ben Griffin ($9,800), Marco Penge ($9,700) and Corey Conners ($9,300) fill out the upper tier, so anyone paying up for two stars is leaving a thin budget for the rest of the roster.

Kim is the interesting fade-or-fire decision. He has never played this event, and a long course is not his strength, but last year’s champion Brian Campbell showed that a shorter hitter can win here by leaning on his approach game. Conners comes off a tie for third in Bermuda and sits 54th in the FedExCup Fall standings, chasing a spot in the early signature events, which gives him real motivation.

Sleepers and Value Plays

The mid-priced and cheap tiers are loaded with players playing for their 2027 status, which is exactly the kind of motivation that shows up in a fall event. Here are three names worth building around.

Billy Horschel ($7,400) is 94th in the standings and needs a strong fall to keep his card, and he has made five of his last six cuts with four top-25s. He closed the Baycurrent Classic with back-to-back 67s and his last win came on paspalum greens, so the surface will not bother him. Dylan Wu ($6,600) has shot under par in 11 consecutive rounds and has finished T15 and T24 in his last two starts at Vidanta Vallarta. Blades Brown ($9,000) is the high-upside option, a 19-year-old fresh off a runner-up finish at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship who finished solo third at the paspalum-based Puerto Rico Open earlier this year.

Why Iron Play Decides Lineups at Vidanta Vallarta

Driving distance has mattered here, since Jon Rahm, Tony Finau and Jake Knapp all ranked near the top of the field off the tee in their winning weeks. But the 2025 finish told a more complete story. Campbell ranked 73rd in the field in driving distance and fourth in strokes gained approach, while Potgieter ranked fifth in distance and led the field in putting, and they tied at 20 under before Campbell won the playoff.

Both Rahm and Finau hit about 80 percent of the greens in their winning weeks, and Knapp led the field in strokes gained approach.

That points toward approach play, especially from 200-plus yards, as the stat to weight most heavily when two lineups look similar on paper. It is also why Ghim is so appealing: he is the best tee-to-green player in this field over his last 24 rounds, he was the runner-up at the Bank of Utah Championship, and his putting has improved from 177th on Tour last year to 79th this year.

Paspalum greens run slower, so putting variance gets muted.

Zach Bauchou and Johnny Keefer are two more names for mid-tier balance. Bauchou has four straight top-25 finishes and a T9 at the Baycurrent Classic, with paspalum results of T21 at the Puerto Rico Open and T9 at Punta Cana, while Keefer has top-10s in Asheville and Utah. Ben James has four top-fives this season and is the one top-tier player who looks like a genuine win threat rather than a salary-fill. If you are taking those lineups to a pick’em app, this Underdog promo code page covers the current offer.

This Week’s Lineup Picks

Start with Ghim as the cornerstone, pair him with a value play who is fighting for his card, and use a young talent in the sleeper slot for tournament upside.

  1. Top play: Doug Ghim
  2. Value play: Billy Horschel
  3. Sleeper: Blades Brown

Ghim’s iron play gives you the floor, and Horschel and Brown give you the salary flexibility to chase a big finish.
