Top Fantasy College Football Players in 2022

Do you miss college football? We do too! There’s just nothing quite like the sound of shoulder pads popping on a crisp fall afternoon. Luckily, the start of the 2022 season will be here before we know it.

It’s never too early to start doing your homework for the 2022 season so that you can crush it in DFS! Here are our top fantasy college football players in 2022. We’ll also include a sleeper for each position that plays at a Group of 5 school.

Top Fantasy QB: C.J. Stroud, Ohio State

Though we were tempted to put Bryce Young in this spot, Stroud gets the nod because he has three upperclassmen returning along the offensive line. Stroud also has one of the top wide receivers in the country coming back in Jaxson Smith-Njigba. The 6-3, 215-pound sophomore finished 4th in the 2021 Heisman Trophy race.

To say Stroud had a stellar 2021 season would be a gross understatement, as he threw for 4,435 yards and 44 touchdowns. He also did an excellent job of taking care of the football by only throwing 6 interceptions the entire season. Ohio State opens the 2022 campaign with 5 straight home games, so Stroud should rack up a ton of fantasy points right off the bat.

Top Sleeper QB: Frank Harris, UTSA

Harris doesn’t get much national attention because he plays in Conference USA. However, this kid is one of the best dual-threat QBs in the country. The redshirt senior threw for 3,177 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2021. He also ran for 566 yards and 6 scores.

The Roadrunners return 8 seniors on offense, including wideouts De’Corian Clark, Joshua Cephus, and Zakhari Franklin. UTSA also signed head coach Jeff Traylor to a long-term deal. CUSA should be one of the weakest conferences in the FBS again this season, so Harris should have no trouble scoring loads of fantasy points.

Top Fantasy RB: Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama

The rich get richer down in Tuscaloosa, as the most explosive playmaker on the Georgia Tech roster left Atlanta to join the Crimson Tide. Did anyone happen to see Gibbs in Alabama’s Spring Game? Holy Smoke, this guy has some serious speed!

Gibbs ran for 746 yards and 4 touchdowns while with the Yellow Jackets in 2021. Those aren’t eye-popping numbers, but just think about what he can do in Bill O’Brien’s potent Alabama offense. It wouldn’t surprise us if he doubled that output in 2022.

The main reason we chose Gibbs for this spot is his uncanny receiving ability. He hauled in 35 receptions for 465 yards and 2 touchdowns last season out of the backfield. With a young offensive line that could struggle in pass protection, Gibbs may end up being Bryce Young’s new favorite target.

Top Sleeper RB: Jordan Mims, Fresno State

Bulldogs head coach Jeff Tedford had to be more than thrilled when Mims decided to return for his 5th season at Fresno State instead of entering the NFL Draft. Mims is 6-foot, 200 pounds with a thick lower half. We love the fact that Mims has four upperclassmen returning along the offensive line, which means he should get plenty of holes to run through in 2022.

In 2021, Mims rushed for 710 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also caught 25 passes for 324 yards and 4 touchdowns. We can see Mims cracking the 1,000-yard rushing threshold in 2022 while making his fantasy owners extremely happy.

Top Fantasy WR: Cedric Tillman, Tennessee

Josh Heupel’s up-tempo offense was a big hit for the Vols last year. Thanks to Heupel’s play-calling and Hendon Hooker’s improvements as a passer, Tillman had a breakout season by racking up 1,081 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. We’ve had our eye on Tillman for DFS ever since he announced that he was returning to Knoxville for his 5th season instead of entering the NFL Draft.

Tillman is 6-3 and 215 pounds, so he’s a matchup nightmare for most defensive backs. While the Biletnikoff Award may end up going to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Tillman may end up putting up more fantasy points in 2022.

Top Sleeper WR: Dante Cephus, Kent State

No college football article is complete without a little bit of MACtion in it. Cephus burst onto the scene in 2021 with 82 receptions, 1,240 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns. The 6-1, 178 pounder was a big reason why the Golden Flashes made it to a bowl game last year.

Since head coach Sean Lewis loves to run an up-tempo spread offense, look for Cephus to once again be a centerpiece of the offense in 2022. Cephus may be especially valuable for a DraftKings lineup since their scoring system awards a full point per reception. Stay tuned for more college football DFS content as the season draws closer!
