NFL Odds: A Brief Look at Each Game for Week 9
The NFL is offering up a spooky treat this Halloween as Thursday Night Football coincides with the scary holiday. Scary is another word opponents would have used to describe the Houston Texans’ offense until its recent slump.
Beyond the normal treats fans can expect this weekend, what tricks might lie in store for favorites in Week 9? We’ll highlight a few potential upset bids along the way as we reveal the NFL odds for Week 9.
Houston Texans at New York Jets (-1.5) Thursday 8:15 p.m.
The Houston Texans (6-2) are tied for second place in the AFC playoff hunt with two other division-leading teams when the franchise heads north for a Halloween night matchup against the New York Jets (2-6). New York is looking for a spark to resurrect their season and end their ghastly five-game losing streak, but the Jets are a suspicious favorite in this contest.
New England Patriots at Tennessee Titans (-3.5) Sunday 1 p.m.
A battle that could determine next year’s NFL Draft positions takes place as the New England Patriots (2-6) square off against the Tennessee Titans (1-6) on Sunday. New England topped the Jets in their last outing, making the Titans – owners of a three-game losing streak – a curious choice as the favorite in this matchup.
New Orleans Saints (-7.5) at Carolina Panthers Sunday 1 p.m.
This is again a suspicious choice for a heavy favorite heading into Week 9. The New Orleans Saints (2-6) have lost their past six games after an undefeated start while the Carolina Panthers (1-7) have lost five in a row. Carolina has lost every game by 10 points or more while the Saints have lost their previous four contests by 13 or more points.
Denver Broncos at Baltimore Ravens (-9.5) Sunday 1 p.m.
There’s little intrigue here. While the Denver Broncos (5-3) are a surprising team to be above .500, the Baltimore Ravens (5-3) aren’t. Denver has won five of their last six contests while the Ravens had their five-game winning streak snapped by Cleveland this weekend. The 9.5-point spread is the largest in Week 9.
Las Vegas Raiders at Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5) Sunday 1 p.m.
Two teams needing wins to remain in the AFC playoff hunt collide Sunday when the Las Vegas Raiders (2-6) head east to face the Cincinnati Bengals (3-5). The Raiders have lost four straight and will rely on a quarterback who’s thrown the second-most interceptions this season with eight. Cincinnati’s three wins are over opponents with a combined 5-19 record thus far.
Los Angeles Chargers (-1.5) at Cleveland Browns Sunday 1 p.m.
The Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) have won two out of their past three games heading into their matchup against the Cleveland Browns (2-6). Cleveland snapped their five-game losing skid with Jameis Winston taking over the quarterback role for the Browns.
Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills (-5.5) Sunday 1 p.m.
The Miami Dolphins (2-5) head north to face the Buffalo Bills (6-2) on Sunday in an important AFC East matchup. The Bills can take a commanding lead in the division by beating their rivals for a second time this season while Miami could climb back into the race with a victory on Sunday.
Dallas Cowboys at Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) Sunday 1 p.m.
The Dallas Cowboys (3-4) have dropped two straight games, a streak they hope to end in Atlanta against the Falcons (5-3) on Sunday. Atlanta has feasted on NFC teams, going 5-1 against opponents from their conference this season.
Washington Commanders (-3.5) at New York Giants Sunday 1 p.m.
The Washington Commanders (6-2) are one of the most surprising teams in the NFL this season behind the play of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. They’ll now face three of their NFC East rivals over the next four games, starting with a rematch against the New York Giants (2-6) on Sunday.
Chicago Bears at Arizona Cardinals (-1.5) Sunday 4:05 p.m.
The Chicago Bears (4-3) dropped a heartbreaking game to the Commanders last week, and now the NFC North squad will face off against the surprising NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals (4-4) on Sunday. Arizona has won two straight to take the lead in their wide-open division.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles (-7.5) Sunday 4:05 p.m.
The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6) are one of the biggest surprises in the league this year after their poor start to the season. They’ll try to rectify that against the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2), a team that has won three straight games after the early bye week.
Los Angeles Rams (-1.5) at Seattle Seahawks Sunday 4:25 p.m.
A battle for positioning in the wide-open NFC West division unfolds on Sunday when the Los Angeles Rams (3-4) face off against the Seattle Seahawks (4-4). Los Angeles has won two straight games with their wide receiving corps finally getting healthy while the Seahawks have dropped four of their past five after starting the year undefeated.
Detroit Lions (-3.5) at Green Bay Packers Sunday 4:25 p.m.
The NFC North will be showcased when the Detroit Lions (6-1) face off against the Green Bay Packers (6-2). These two teams have the longest winning streaks in the NFC as the Lions have won five consecutive contests, besting the Packers’ four-straight wins. The winner could take a big leap toward locking up the division – and conference – top spot for the playoffs.
Indianapolis Colts at Minnesota Vikings (-5.5) Sunday 8:20 p.m.
Here’s another game oddsmakers have a curious spread for Week 9. The Indianapolis Colts (4-4) have been extremely competitive in Joe Flacco’s games this season, the squad announced they’ll start him this week. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings (5-2) have dropped both games since starting the season undefeated.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Kansas City Chiefs (-8.5) Monday 8:15 p.m.
The final game of Week 9 features the second-highest point spread of the schedule. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-4) are heavy underdogs to snap the Kansas City Chiefs’ (7-0) undefeated streak on Monday Night Football. Kansas City has won five of their seven games by a touchdown or less, projecting this spread to favor the underdogs.
Bye Week: San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers
