Josh Allen has emerged as the betting favorite to win NFL MVP on Kalshi, the prediction-market platform where traders are treating the award race as a wide-open, quarterback-heavy field heading into the 2026 season. Allen currently sits atop the market at 11% implied probability, translating to American odds of roughly +809, just ahead of a tightly bunched group of three other passers.
The market reflects how differently prediction exchanges price futures compared to a traditional sportsbook. Instead of a house-set line, Kalshi lets traders buy and sell “Yes” or “No” contracts on each player, with the contract price acting as a live read of the crowd’s confidence. Winning contracts settle at $1 when the market resolves, which for the MVP race happens after the Associated Press announces its award at NFL Honors.
A Crowded Race at the Top
Allen’s 11% leads a group where three more quarterbacks are stacked right behind him at 10% apiece: Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, and Joe Burrow. That bunching signals just how unsettled the early market is — with training camps just getting underway, no single passer has separated from the pack the way MVP favorites often do once the season is in full swing.
Rounding out the top of the board, Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Matthew Stafford, and Patrick Mahomes are all priced at 7% (+1329), while Dak Prescott sits at 6% (+1567) and Jordan Love at 5% (+1900). Quarterbacks dominate the board entirely, underscoring how the MVP award has become almost exclusively a passer’s race in the modern NFL.
The Case for Each Contender
Allen enters the year facing a difficult early schedule, opening at the Texans before hosting the Lions, Chargers, and Patriots, then traveling to face the Rams. Buffalo’s roster also has some question marks, including several new starters and a defense adjusting to new coordinator Joe Brady. DJ Moore was added to the receiving corps, though he took a step back last season with the Bears. Still, Allen has a track record of shouldering the offensive load himself — he led all quarterbacks with 14 rushing touchdowns a year ago.
Herbert is one of the more intriguing value plays in the field. He threw for 3,727 yards and 26 touchdowns last season while adding 498 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground, doing so despite the Chargers being hit hard by injuries for much of the year — including stretches without both starting tackles and running back Omarion Hampton. A healthier Los Angeles roster in 2026 could push his numbers higher.
Jackson is coming off an injury-shortened season, but his 2024 form remains the blueprint for why he’s in the conversation: 41 touchdown passes, 4,172 passing yards, and only four interceptions, plus 985 rushing yards and four more scores. Baltimore is viewed as a legitimate AFC contender again, and an MVP-caliber Jackson season would likely be a big reason why.
Burrow, like Jackson, dealt with injuries in 2025 after an elite 2024 in which he led the NFL with 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdown passes. He’ll have Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to throw to again, and his season-long passing yardage total is set at 3,999.5 — a number he’s blown past in each of his three full healthy seasons, including 4,611 in 2021 and 4,475 in 2022.
Why Prediction Markets Are Worth Watching
Markets like Kalshi’s differ from a standard sportsbook future in a key way: bettors can exit a position at any point before the season resolves, banking a gain or cutting a loss as the MVP picture sharpens. Because the prices are shaped by real money moving in response to news, injuries, and performance, they tend to shift quickly and can offer an early gauge of how the betting public views the race well before Week 1. For sports bettors tracking Super Bowl odds and other season-long futures, the MVP board is one more early-season signal worth following as training camps progress and depth charts take shape.
