Breakdown of Manaea vs. Montas

Sean Manaea has been a pleasant surprise for this New York rotation all season long. The veteran lefty struck out nearly 25% of batters and only allowed an expected batting average of .229 this season. He also posted a great record of 12-6 and an ERA of only 3.47.

Frankie Montas endured a pretty rough 2024 campaign, mainly because of his high walk rate of 10.1%. Montas hits 95 mph with his fastball, but most of his breaking pitches seem to catch too much of the plate. Francisco Lindor is hitting .333 with 2 doubles in his career against Montas.

Interesting enough, both of these starting pitchers just squared off against each other on September 27th. The Brewers bats got the best of Manaea in that one, as they got 5 runs in less than 4 innings against him. Milwaukee will need to repeat that success to force a Game 3.

Offensive Breakdown of Each Team

Both of these teams have some serious sluggers in their respective lineups. The Brewers rank 6th in runs scored and the Mets aren’t too far behind, as they rank 7th. Milwaukee’s success without the services of Christian Yelich has been impressive, to say the least.

After a sluggish start to 2024, this Mets lineup has been one of the hottest in baseball. Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and JD Martinez all have good power to all parts of the ballpark. Starling Marte and Brandon Nimmo have also stepped up in a big way for New York of late.

The Mets lineup has been in better current form lately. They rank 14th in WRC+ over the last 30 days while the Brew Crew ranks just 22nd. Can they build on last night’s 8-4 victory?

Best Bet: Mets +105 (Fanatics)

I get that this is an all hands-on deck game for the Brewers, but there’s no way the Mets should be plus money in this spot. Sure, Milwaukee roughed up Manaea in his last start, but I’m betting that was an anomaly. I’m also expecting Manaea to have better command of his sinker this time around!

Both of these teams have solid bullpens, but New York ranks 2nd in K minus BB rate over the last month. Milwaukee ranks just 8th! I get that the Mets relievers are more taxed after Monday’s doubleheader, but they’ve still been in better overall form as a group.

Milwaukee’s a good offensive ballclub, but they’ve been underwhelming most of the year against lefties. The Brewers rank just 15th in WRC+ against southpaws. Give me that plus money on the Metamucils!
